We have our large egg on a BBQ island. The setup is similar to the photo attached. Is this OK or should we try to figure out a way to secure it (any ideas would be greatly welcomed).

I would try to secure it, especially if you have kiddos. That's a bad accident waiting to happen. Also make sure you have an air gap underneath

Accident waiting to happen, check this out ...

Even without a doggie or kiddo running around, the egg is rear-top heavy when dome is opened.
Edit: Welcome aboard btw. Nice backyard you got there.canuckland -
Just two "old" kiddos. We do have the little green feet that came with the egg so a inch gap.

Thanks for the welcome. So much advice to learn from!

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Above all, have fun.Beautiful setting right here. Congrats. And regarding the feet-they will work-the key is the insulation created by the air-gap.Edit: As you may have observed, many here willing to help with anything BGE or Q related and well-beyond. I think the "little feet" that you are referring to is the "nest". They are not supposed to be used unless the Egg is in a cart or table. I think to use them alone in a situation as shown in the photo would make the Egg even more unstable. They do provide an air space beneath the Egg, which is a good thing, I believe.jeancc said:Just two "old" kiddos. Years ago there was an egger who worried about the same issue so he constructed a 3" metal pipe anchored in a threaded pipe flange. Then he bent his own band and secured it around the top of his base and secured it to the pipe. This might sound complicated but honestly it really isn't.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

All a matter of addressing surrounding hazards. I have had a medium on a stack of pavers (with air gap) for years. It's in a location where it is practically impossible to knock over.
That said, we had a tornado come through recently (in Ottawa Canada, seriously?) and rip a tree branch from my apple tree that fell just beside the 'impossible to knock over egg'. I didn't take tornados into account when assessing the setup as safe. No harm done thankfully (it could have got another egg and my PBC too) but I am looking at a better solution now.
BTW - the three ceramic feet referred to are not the nest but little stepped spacers provided with the Egg (presumably when bought w/o a nest). I have four of them now as they are prone to cracking like
all ceramics under load. -
I think that setup is a recipe for a scrambled egg.

Do you happen to have a larger picture of that to share? I'm liking the look of it and may copy some of the design.Canugghead said:Steve

Wow, 3 quarters! We'll be real careful for now and try to come up with a clean design to work with the BBQ island. Thanks all.
