The comment that the accessories can be shared is crazy to me. I've read it for years and always thought WTF. If I'm going to spend the money on 2 eggs the same size I want to be able to use both at the same time no matter what I'm cooking on either. If this is not the case than all you have is one usable egg at a time.
My eggs just like my grandkids don't share!!!-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky. -
your comments are fair. Different gear for different situations. I live in Utah, and often people ask why I have more than one BBQ/grill, I ask them how many guns they have. And that answers the question for them.TEXASBGE2018 said:cookingdude555 said:Agree with @DoubleEgger. So often the shared accessories bit is sold, but they can only be used in one egg at a time. I love the XL, in fact I have two of them. Flexibility is what I gain from them. The large cannot do what the XL can, even with the AR. I have an AR in one of my XLs and the L, and the large AR is puny compared to the XL AR setup. My medium doesn't feel that small compared to the Large, but man, the Large is tiny compared to the XL.
When I stated "shared accessories" I was not implying that you would switch them back and forth mid cook, just that if I have 2 larges the accessories are interchangeable which is nice to have rather than having to go out and buy those same accessories again for an XL. Might I ask how many times you can recall that you were using more than 2 eggs at once? All I was trying to say was that for the vast majority of people they aren't going to use more than 2 eggs at once regularly. I have no problem with wanting a larger egg. I just think again that for most people having an XL, L and KJ Jr all loaded at once as Colts said he would is not normal. One of the things this forum is great at is having other people spend your money. I've learned that several times off here. -
I've suffered from @YukonRon syndrome because of here. I have logged on here and my egg purchase has dragged me into spending hell.
I spent $1,000 on the egg and so far probably $2000 on crap that has been recommended off here. Some good, some bad. All stuff that I probably didn't truly need.
Still haven't used that bakers cloche or banneton more than twice. Now every time I walk out on my back porch and sit in my rocking chair staring back and forth at my egg and blackstone then at the empty spot in the corner that could be occupied with a $4,000 Fontana Forni Wood Fired Oven. Then I hear from my wife that we need a pool, and the landscaping that goes with it. Oh and a new fence.....

That’s the new member dilemma. Every one will have you buying sh!t that doesn’t suit your style of cooking. I’ve given away so much expensive crap.TEXASBGE2018 said:I've suffered from @YukonRon syndrome because of here. I have logged on here and my egg purchase has dragged me into spending hell.

I asked for a big joe joetisserie for my birthday and my wonderful wife bought it for me. I have spun two birds on it. they were good, but not nearly as good as the birds that come off my WSM using this accessory:

I wish I would have seen this before the joetisserie. I have spent a lot of cash on things I wish I would not have. But I dont regret the extra eggs, they are gold. -

What is the warranty state of the Eggs? I am seriously considering an XL and have two medium eggs both not covered by warranty. I plan to keep the second as the spare parts carcass for the first as selling it isn't going to net enough to be worthwhile (first ceramic part I buy would likely be more $$ than I could get for the egg)..

@kaybee Both are under warranty and registered with me. I'm going to keep the 2nd large, do a clean burn and make it a dedicated baking/pizza egg~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

I am glad you decided to keep both larges, but the XL is my favorite. It is more forgiving and is a cooking machine. I just took my new smobot on its maiden voyage with an 18 hour brisket cook with the XL. Handled it with no problem. Soon you will say, How did I survive with only 2 large eggs.....LOLI drink cheap beer so I can afford good bourbon.

I've struggled with briskets on the large. I'm looking forward to actually fitting a packer on the XL, setting up the FlameBoss 300 and letting it do its thing. I have a feeling the XL will be used often even though there are only two of usbubbajack said:I am glad you decided to keep both larges, but the XL is my favorite. Now that's definitely a plan! Can't wait to get an XL. Been cooking with a Trompo King on a Medium and the compromises required are driving me nuts.ColtsFan said:@kaybee Both are under warranty and registered with me.
