This is the stuff that makes me long for Texas.

I’m impressed that they are selling a $50 steak out of a trailer. Only in Texas.

60 day dry aged, and they’re beautiful. If we didn’t have a big lunch planned, I’d have eaten one.

Also, from the “only in Texas” files, the guy waiting next to us for his to go order explained that he and his girlfriend are vegan.....except for BBQ, and meat they hunt.

The lunch of Champions (not store-bought) wasn’t half bad either. I don’t need to eat for another few days. I only got a few shots but Sausage Fest at Chez Jones was a success. Brats, masalawurst, Texas Beef (Made 100% with SRF Brisket and our pig fat)

Agreed.  I thought the brats were lovely and subtle, the TX beef was the best we've done (that is, the ones you made are better than the ones we made), but the masalawurst, while awesome, was missing something...... garlic, maybe?

I would normally cut you some slack, but, in the face of a Valentina's Real Deal Holyfield breakfast taco with a hand made, fresh tortilla, a fried egg and either overnight smoked brisket or pulled pork, you are out of your friggin' mind.

Rudy's is perfectly serviceable roadside food, but if you are putting it in "best taco ever" territory, you need to travel closer to town than "Not quite in Austin..."

For those of you visiting Austin, or those of you that live nearby, but haven't yet fully surveyed the breakfast taco scene (@xfire_ATX, please consider this an olive branch), here are a few different takes:
My only issue is that only a few of these are walking distance for me.

I dont need an Olive branch but thank you I will accept the treatise.  I have lived in ATX for 30+ years and have seen the evolution of BBQ and Breakfast Tacos go from nothing to idolatry.  Ive eaten bad food at the best of the BBQ joints and been disapointed chasing the best taco (and I love breakfast tacos more than any other food).

So I had the truly best taco of my life completely hung over in some San Antonio Suburb, but generally in Austin would go with a Torchys Chorizo as an everyday kind of taco. But in the spirit of the boards I thought I would share my visit this Sunday, whereby Rudys made a fresh Taco that totally hit the spot so in that moment in time that ranked up there.  Heck I dont even like Bacon really (I know blasphemy) but Fresh Jalapenos, just scrambled eggs on a local Tortilla with a slice or two of bacon was just right.

Did I make breakfast Tacos with the SRF brisket from Costco- Yep.  Did I make Tacos with the Roasted Salsa going around the board - Yep.  Would I drive 35 miles to get an Artisan Taco - nope but to each their own and it seemed like you enjoyed it.

In the end I will remember that Taco not just because it was so good but because that $2.35 taco caused an internet flame war...

Condition at the time of consumption is an underappreciated element to breakfast taco satisfaction, for sure.

As for Torchy's, while it now has the stigma of being "corporate" or "big taco", if you will, I am a fan, and have been since the first storefront several years ago.  Good news for me, they are opening one just down the street.

Ya, I've never understood the whole tomahawk thing. It's just the latest foodie trend. Kinda like cutting up an entire steak and stacking it on a plate so you can show how rare it is inside. Oh, wait its because you're sharing 1 Ribeye with a bunch of people right?
