Going to Sell My Large

I've decide to sell may LBGE. I have a friend that wants it and if he is okay with the price tag on it then I'll sell it.
The last time I used it for a cook that won't fit on the MM was July of last year. Its mostly just the wife and I these days so any cooks are smaller and generally stuff like steaks or burgers. I still have two boys at home but they are older (can't get rid of millennials) but one works evenings and the other does his own thing most of the time. The LBGE is just taking up room on my porch. I will still have the gasser and an electric smoker if I need them.
Not that I am retired we are planning to move to the mountains around Asheville, NC sometime in the next year or so; so now is a good time to downsize on things. I am beginning to think that the MM is the perfect egg. Smaller and portable if you need it to be. Cooks use less lump. Faster to desired temp and easier to clean up. The only drawbacks I can see are smaller cooks (not a problem for us) and fewer eggcessories.
My buddy has a large extended family and they are all about cookouts and get togethers. I would rather see the LBGE being used than sitting around my porch nit being used.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

I'll chime in. Our millennial never rented a home. Lived with us until recently and purchased his own home. Millennial's do move
Of course we're proud but, also we were initially very sad...empty nest. Now he has his MM & a BS at his place .We have a LG & MM. Depending on what I'm cooking the MM could likely handle it. But, I wouldn't part with my LG and her prep table if you paid me. Way too many reasons to list but, here are just a couple...Brisket, Butt, Sourdough, Turkey, blah blah blah. To each their own. No judgement one way or the other. LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
I'd get rid of the gasser and electric smoker to free up space before I sold the LBGE, but you know your needs best. I smoke bigger cuts of meat often so I couldn't survive with just the MMBGE. Plus, I feel like my egg is part of the family

The largest I'll be cooking in the future is a 9lb Boston butt or a slab of ribs. Those can be don easily on the MM. May exchange the gasser for a smaller one and can't decide what to do with the electric smoker. I may keep it and customize it so that it has better smoke. Possible add an Amaz-n-smoker tube to it as I already have one.Scantron said:I'd get rid of the gasser and electric smoker to free up space before I sold the LBGE, but you know your needs best. Good for you on retirement and downsizing. The BGEs, we have, will be passed on down to our children.
They have play a key role to our lifestyle, so I would never sell either of the two. In fact, I will be adding a third, going into retirement.
We have plenty of other possessions to downsize, and we will do so, but when it comes time to retire, we are going to stop working, we are not going to stop living.
It appears you have this well planned, if you do sell it, I am sure the new owner will enjoy it for years to come.

I say if you feel it needs to go, you know your situation better than all of us internet people. What kind of electric do you have? I have a smokin-it electric:
https://www.smokin-it.com/Smokers-s/5.htm
It is an awesome machine and cooks really well. When I want a little more smoke I use a smoke tube like you suggested. Electric smokers dont have very much draft. I would say the only draw back is no smoke ring, but thats trivial. Be sure you really want to sell the large tho. I have sold an egg only to buy that same size later on again. -
Offer the large as a house warming gift to the first millennial who get's his own place? That will keep it in the family.
-
Downsizing. I love it. My dad never did and after he passed, my siblings and I had an enormous job cleaning out the house. Over the last dozen years I've moved several times and gotten rid of stuff every time. I've got a couple moves left and will continue to divest. But my eggs? They'll probably be last to go.Signal Mountain, TN

@cookingdude555
My electric is just a cheap CharGrill(?) that my daughter got me for Christmas one year. You are right about the draft. I figure I'll need to add a small fan to keep the smoking tube lit.
I just enjoy the cooks on the MM more than I do on the Large. Setup and cleanup are so much easier.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Your reasons for selling are justifiable.
I have a med and a mini that gets most of the work.

I love this! Like The Hunger Games of moving out with the LBGE as the reward. Could create some animosity thoughGulfcoastguy said:Offer the large as a house warming gift to the first millennial who get's his own place? That will keep it in the family.
But, that's like anything that is handed down.

Update: My friend decided the $1,000 price tag was to much for him so looks like I may not be selling it. Don't want to post it on Craig's List so I may just keep it for weekend smokes and use the MM during the week.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

$1k for used LBGE to a friend? What’s the saying, with friends like these, who needs...
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
Sounded like a good deal to me. With the table pizza stones AR and all the CGS stuff thrown in I have $2000 invested in it. And it is less than 2 years old. I also have the new band and henge for it.Legume said:$1k for used LBGE to a friend? What’s the saying, with friends like these, who needs...Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

You gotta do you man. But you should probably tell your friend he’s better off buying new for the warranty.
Personally I’d never buy a used egg unless it was super cheap because I had to do a warranty claim in my first 5 years (had a base crack) I’d be pretty pissed if I bought a used egg for like 400$ and it cracked and that was just it.
If he’s a good friend and you’re really not going to use it just gift it to him don’t be a miser.“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

The stumbling block on your $1k price is the lack of the lifetime warranty. If and when you pass ownership he will forever be footing full price replacing the parts which are more than likely going to break.SaintJohnsEgger said:

I'm with the OP that my small (which is a M/M with the bottom shortened) gets about 70% of all my grilling tasks. I won't get rid of my Large though until I'm 6 feet under! I could - but won't - sell my baking egg which is my medium, nor my Mini which is my traveling egg. Oh and yes my BlackStone which I call an impulse buy when those "must follow the pack" threads were red hot! Here it is mid August and I have not used the BlackStone even once this year!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Conventional wisdom around here is that a used (no warranty) BGE is worth no more than 50% of retail. You can then price the add-ons. Something to consider. Your BGE-good luck.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
A $1,000? He can get a brand new one with warranty for less than that and pick his own accessories over time. I’ve had mine 8 months and I have warrantied the base, firebox, fire ring and bands and just called today to put in another firebox claim. Furthermore I don’t think I could recommend a bge to anyone who doesn’t mind tinkering with stuff.South of Columbus, Ohio.

Using that logic and going half price on the table and the CGS stuff the total comes to $823. I was originally thinking $800 buy my wife wanted me to go higher.Don't think the wife would like me giving it away even to a good friend.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

you know your situation best, but a large is not that much bigger than a medium. I have both and prefer the medium for nearly every cook. but if I were trading, I would want to be on your friends side of this transaction.SaintJohnsEgger said:He has a used medium already. have 3 Larges on the porch with a MM and Mini. Would get rid of the 3 Larges before the MM or Mini. Also the last Large I bought from a neighbor for $200.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Update:
I have decided to cave to the wisdom of this group and NOT sell my Large.
Over the next week I'll replace the band and put on a new gasket. I'll also make some enhancements to the table that I have been meaning to make to make using the FlameBoss easier. Then I'm going to build a matching (sort of) table for the MM. It will be lower as the LBGE table top is too high for the MM.
Need to renew my KCBS membership so that I can get back into Restaurant Depot and get some more protein.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Well done forum mates. We have talked another Egger of the ledge.
Just Kidding, of Course.
Hope your retirement goes well, and you get many more uses of your large.
Glad to have you on the forum, and be sure to post the next cook on the Large.

Got my medium a month ago and it is more than sufficient for me. My one concern is heat: I’ve maxed it out at @600. It might’ve gone higher but by then I was tired of waiting and tossed on a steak and was done with it. I’m hoping it will hit 700 for those rare searing occasions. But for chicken and especially pork at low temps, it’s perfect, especially since there’s just me and my vegetarian wife.

Welcome. We can get your heat issue situated but I don’t want to hijack this. The Medium is a little firecracker, lack of heat shouldn’t be an issue. Start up a thread. Good way to introduce yourself and we’ll get you squared away.timbonole said:Got my medium a month ago and it is more than sufficient for me. My one concern is heat: I’ve maxed it out at @600.
