Rescued Egg - Before and After

Rescued an abused large Egg. Cleaned up, painted chips (we will see how that holds up) and put on a new hinge and band assembly. New rim seals and calibrated thermometer. Ready for my first cook tomorrow! Before, after and rubbed pork!

Very nice. Ask your dealer about BGEs touch up paint. We have a bottle that we use to touch up some Eggs.
-
Thanks everyone. I am quite pleased with the outcome. Wasn't feeling great with initial purchase, but once I accepted that I needed a new hinge, and the cost would add to my "purchase price", I was happy. Thanks to the Ceramic Grill Store for good customer support and fast shipping!! Pork is happily smoking away. @ChrisSonn23 will definitely check on the dealer paint. Do you know if it is a match for the glaze (same material but not baked on) or a simple paint like I go from Lowes? To be honest, at low temps, (smoking at 240F) the paint is holding up and matches perfectly.

Table needs rebuilt, you can see from the top pic the poor condition it is in. Also, I ordered a new bottom door made by Wanray from eBay. Will get next week and install.

It is very satisfying to resurrect an abused egg.
i bought a small at a local thrift store about a year ago for $89.00. The the guy I talked to at the store had no idea what it was.
The previous owner burned out the gasket and the draft door was missing parts.
Apparently did not know how to use it and donated it.
About $50 bucks in parts and she was as good as new.
I love my rescued small. Works like a charm. -

Where in Pittsburgh? I looked at that egg on craigslist for a friend but decided against it because of it's looks and lack of a warranty. For me I would not be as concerned but not for a new egg owner. I'm always searching craigslist for a deal on another egg.

@RichH The new band/hinge assembly was $132.95 with free shipping.

@Moleman, Any egg you buy used will not transfer warranty though. I would have preferred to buy one from someone with their warranty intact in case of any major issues. The location was actually in Bethel Park. There was one on eBay for $900 but I had already bought mine.
-
@Drewmstr They say its the same stuff they use to paint the Egg and will hold up to the heat. Just comes in a little fingernail polish container. We have had good luck with it when we have had to use it
-
@ChrisSonn23 if this Latex doesn't hold up I will definitely get some. Thanks man!
