OT Blackstone Seasoning OT

My BS came in a few days ago and Im hoping to find some time today to set up and season.
I plan on seasoning with grape seed oil, I believe I saw a few post discouraging that? I have searched but couldn't find anything in the first few pages so please if I should not use grape seed please let me know.

My plan is 3 coats of grape seed then go directly to 3 lbs of bacon and finish with some smash burgers, is it wrong that im smiling while typing this?

This will also be my first smash burger on the griddle top I have tried once before on CI pan and they were good hoping for great today!!

Don't know about grape seed oil. I just used canola until blackened, then stir fried a bunch of green onions until they were burnt. Dunno if the onions mattered, but they smelled good. =)

Or, you could skip the grape seed and just fry up the bacon.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I just realized it was flaxseed oil that was the no no not grape seed. Im going to do 2 coats of grape seed and then up the bacon to 6 lbs.

I just used Crisco Shortening. I put 2 layers. The key is to make sure the top is super hot when you apply it. I also don't know much about grapeseed oil. If it has a tendency to burn at high heat I would advise using something else.

I used canola. As they say, more than one way to season a blackstone

@mlc2013, I eat very little bacon, but once in a while, I'll fry a pound (sheet pan in the oven) and freeze it. When I want a slice, it takes about 10 seconds from frozen in the microwave. A pound lasts a LONG time!

If I were you, I'd just skip the rest and fry your bacon.

I originally did mine with flaxseed oil, as that was what was recommended by Blackstone.   After it flaked off and I had to redo everything, I sent them a note, noting the recommendation for flaxseed oil was still on their web site.  I received no response from them, not even a form letter.

While we're on this topic, my initial seasoning about 18 months ago was decent, but I have had a few areas with minor flaking and also a couple scratches where my scraper somehow had a sharp corner.  Anyhow, wondering if I need to do any kind of sanding or pre-treatment, or just do another seasoning cook to get those weak areas covered.

I used grapeseed on the recommendation from @double@DoubleEgger, it worked fantastic highly recommended

If you can, take a sander to the griddle top before you start seasoning it. Not necessary,  but it helps.

Grapeseed oil works well for seasoning a BS griddle. As do bacon, Crisco, etc. The more you cook on it, the better it will get.

caliking just about to unbox the BS whats this sanding thing? What grit paper and how much or are you just looking to scuff surface for better oil retention or smooth surface

Anyway I did light sanding with 400 and 600 2 passes each
    than cleaned
then grape seed oil 4 coats
    then 6 lbs. bacon

now im going to make smash burgers

Enjoy it.  I would suggest simple lard as well.  Once seasoned, keep it slick.  A wipe with oil after cleaning and again before using will keep it nice.  Also, clean and oil it when finished cooking - not the next day or before the next cook.  You'll lose your seasoning that way.

I just have the 17" model. Hardly ever use it. All that stuff you and Tex listed above, I cook on my stove. Couldn't be bothered with the BS. Everyone seems to love 'em... I'd rather just have my $70 back.

    But it's seasoned well! =)
