Just ordered the FB 300

Yesterday I was smoking 5 slabs of spare ribs using my adj rig and Cyber Q probe set at the top rack.
During the cook my temp shot up to 350 degrees. I was able to get the temp back to 225 after replacing the pit probe however I am not sure if setting the probe on the top rack vs the bottom was the culprit. Perhaps it was an airflow issue that caused the Cyber Q to run the fan more and the temp shot up as a result. The good news is that the ribs came out well.
Just ordered the FB 300 on Amazon to give it a try.

Good to know. Now that they improved the fan adapter and introduced the new app I figured it was time.ColtsFan said:You will not be disappointed -
Used a FB300 for a pork shoulder last night and slept for 8 hours. Very nice not having to wake up overnight after you’ve had a couple drinks!

You’ll love it. I’ve been using mine for 4-5 months now and absolutely love it. It tightly hold temps within 5 degrees.

They made it shiny. A bunch used to say the FB fan wasnt as good as the guru fan because the guru fan was metal. It's not metal.....it's the same style plastic fan, it just had brushed metal casing on the outside where the FB fan was painted metal and not fully encased. Then because of the TNW review, everybody wanted a damper or deflector on it because of the wind. So FB put one on there, but it really does nothing if you use the unit as designed (close the daisy wheel and have it push air through.) It still does not have an adjustable damper, because it's a variable speed fan. Guru is on or off.....you need the manually adjusted damper to throttle down the one speed fan.SSQUAL612 said:

You Close the daisy wheel completely? I leave a crack around 3-4mm in my smokeware cap.stlcharcoal said:

Depends on how tight your egg is. If you don't get any smoke out around the band, then yeah, leave it cracked a hair for a Large. XL probably leave it cracked all the time. But of a Large with a weak seal or a new daisy wheel (not gunked up), then you can close it all the way and just let the FB push the air through.Gravytrain84 said:

In the "old days" of temp "controllers", they were more of a fail safe. You set the egg up do it's thing like you would without the fan. Then if the temp fell, the fan would kick on full blast and stoke the fire back up. If you went overtemp, you were SOL.
The FB with it's variable speed fan can sit there and puff on that fire. Fire dies, fire reignites, fire dies, fire reignites, on, off, on, off......constantly. It's a true controller/maintainer, than something just to stoke the fire if it gets cold. FB was the first one to come along and really make one with logic for a kamado. All the other ones worked a lot better on drafty, leaky cookers that needed a lot of air and were easy to cool down.

I bought one about a month ago, it's been great. I've done a pork shoulder and brisket at 250 for 8-10 hours. I roasted a whole chicken yesterday for dinner 350. It makes it so easy. I just can't figure out how to get the alarms to come to my cell phone. I can't edit anything on the app.Franklin, TN
