Not really a fan but handy in the rain. I would save your money and put it towards something else.

I'm in the no camp. My cap doesn't hold smoking temps at all. It's in a bin along with a lot of other worthless accessories I've bought over the years
    User error
LOL I promise you I know how to properly light and maintain a steady fire in my eggs.

My cap has so much play between the two pieces that I can shove toothpicks in all around it. It won't hold less than 350F with the top completely shut. I can hold 225F with the daisy wheel. Smoke ware doesn't think that's an issue and their customer service was not very good in my case. I was given a 15% coupon to buy another cap.
Funny how that works. I could never hold less than 250 before the cap, 225 steady for hours with it.  I bought a Flameboss because I could not get low temps to stay, don't use it anymore.

Zero play in mine, it hasn't been removed in over a year. 225 or 700, snuffs out as quickly as the cap.

    Go figure.
I dont have any problem with the low but i cant get over 400 with the cap on.  I am using an XL i wonder if that has anything to do with it.?

I got one for my egg that sits uncovered and doesn't get a lot of use in the summer. I can vent my egg and not let rain in. This keeps the mold down.
Other then that, my egg with a roof is still old school.

    3 Eggs, 3 caps.

Down here in the tropics the original equipment is not designed to handle heavy rainfall.  Too much water into the egg while using is not a good thing.

Three caps for me as well.  I'm up huge money from what I paid for them.

I'm debating on purchasing a SmokeWare cap.  Are they worth it, or should I stick with the factory cap?
I bought one and have four cooks on it.  It works well for me and seems to be a little easier to maintain consistent temps.  Recommend.

Depends on what issue you are trying to fix. Temp control? the daisy does just fine, until you open the egg.  Smokeware stays put while open.Rust? fixed. minute temp control? fixed. If these problems aren't an issue for you, don't bother, for me they were

Had same issue till I started fire in 3 places on my XL. Easily control with Smokeware cap to 550* with bottom vent wide open.

This is superficial but I don't care for the "chimney" look. I also wish it was available in Matte Black. I don't think the stainless chimney look meshes well with the earthy feel of the green and the wood accents.

I love the daisy wheel, it works really well at locking in whatever temp.  I lost the ceramic green cap in a mishap, and figured I would give the smokeware a try as a replacement.  It works well, and does as everyone has suggested.  However I don't like that when I pull the cover on my grill that often it gets wrapped up in that and comes off with the cover.  I just have to be aware when the cover comes off that this could get stuck in it.  I also bought the flat cap that they sell.  It does a really good job snuffing out the fire.
