    Last time I got invited to such a deal it was "sent" from Rex Tillerson the day before he got fired.  Things went downhill after that!

    I know this topic seems funny, but my Dad, as he started slipping into Alzheimers, got sucked into this sort of thing. Eventually, he was being called by phone every 15 minutes, and his computer was completely owned. Every bit of financial and personal info he had on it was sucked up. The machine was running as a zombie spambot.

    After he died, and I was left to sort out the disaster of his finances, the lawyers I hired said his loss of $250,000 and $100K of debt was nothing. They had to deal with a client and family where Mom dropped $5M, and the estate was left $1.5M in debt.

    If you know anyone who gets involved w. this sort of thing, hate to say it, but drag them before a judge and get them declared incompetent if at all possible. You can also go to every Western Union office in the area, and show them a picture of the victim. They will stop dealing with them, tho' there are other ways to suck money out of them, such as pre-paid debit cards.

     Thank you for the heads up.  We laugh at this stuff, but they do it because it works.  Usually it is the elderly who suffer.  They are responsible, save, and take care their whole life, and them some motherfuckin low life piece of **** douche worthless maggot scum sucking loser steals it all from a trusting soul. 

    As the victim of identy theft (stolen HR computer) I know the pain of this.

    When I get these types of phone calls which I have several times I like to screw with them. I will keep them on the phone for 5-10min talking about nothing like toe nail clippings or why is Kermit the frog Lime Green. Then I tell them to hold on while I go get my credit card. I'll leave the phone down for 15-20min and then if they are still there when I get back I will talk for 5-10min more. Then put them on hold again. Longest i've kept them on the phone was for an hour and a half, then I promptly told them to sit and spin. Ahh entertainment at its finest.

    Yes its true. I haven't noticed any additional random phone calls in the years since i've been doing it. If a number calls me that I don't recognize and I'm not in the mood to mess with them I block it immediately. Usually the people that do this kinda thing hang up when I start talking about random stuff. But occasionally you will get a sucker that hangs on thinking they will get a hook. That's when things get fun because short of cussing them out, which sometimes I will also do for fun, they wont hang up. I also enjoy getting the occasional insurance sales people trying to sell me car insurance. I tell them I ride a tricycle to work or rollerblades and they will try to sell me insurance on that. I then tell them I like to live life dangerously and they usually get the idea.
