I told my wife that we needed to upgrade from a large to an XL and she said: "Yes, We do." So here is my question: Should I get the "package deal" that has everything or just the egg and buy accessories as I need them?

    I don't know what the package deal includes, but fill us in on what's included with the package and the price delta between the two options and there will be plenty of opinions. Also, forget about this "upgrading" question. This is not an upgrade decision, this is an add-on decision. There is no reason to dispose of a cooker, just add-on.

    The large will be moved to the lake house. My local hardware store has the XL priced at 1150. The "package" includes plate setter, ash tool, grill lifter, nest with table wings, and probably lighter cubes and a bag of charcoal for 1450.

    @DMW if I’m not mistaken you said this week your wife was gonna take off if you brought one more cooking apparatus in your backyard  ;)

    I came home a few days ago saying I was contemplating an XL. 

    My wife said “you can get that but ONE thing has to go”. Her inflection implied either one of my Larges....or me.

    Look on Craigslist and find a nest and side shelves on the cheap. That’s more money to buy stuff from Ceramic Grill Store.

    Take the side shelves off your large and put on the XL for the meantime

    Meh, those side shelves never impressed me, they can't handle hot plate setters or grids off the egg.

    But, a dozen or so Weber kettles of different sizes (including The Simpsons 22" and Smokey Joe versions), a redneck pizza oven, 2 drum smokers, 3 eggs, and other stuff later... she hasn't filed for divorce.

    When I bought my second XL last month, I bought it with the nest, and nest handler.  I had a platesetter in my other XL, and decided to go the CGS route on the second one.  I bought the XL AR, woo, and all of that.  It was expensive but it functions much better than just having the platesetter.

    If you are going to keep the large (which you should), consider what you're going to use each egg for when you're buying accessories. You probably don't need the same setup for each and your large will probably still be big enough for some of your cooks.

    @bhugg If you live in Dallas wait for the eggfest there. It is June 9th. You will get a better deal there. I personally would go CGS route for accessories. Tom is awesome and his products and service are top notch.

    Since the XL is replacing the Large, you should sell the Large for the cost of the XL.  A few weeks/months on CL, and you still have your Large, and you're still there, and everyone is happy.   :)
