ROCCBOX FIRST ZA PARTY TODAY. EXCELLENT RESULTS...

made pizza at tailgate party today with homemade varasano dough method recipe with gas fired roccbox. Wow incredible results. Few observations:
ROCCBOX is heavy, so youll need a cart or wagon to lug it around. Gets up to temperature within 15 mins amd cranks out pizza every 2 to 3 mins, made 12 pies and this thing is a workhorse. Produces consistent, even heat with no fuss at all. The uuni by comparison has to be constantly monitored so that pellet feed doesnt smother the fire. their gas burner , availble summer of 2017 is , well unavailable as of thanksgiving 2017 so there you go....
Roccnox sits higher on tabletop than uuni which makes it easier to monitor pies in the oven without straining your back too much.
i have not used the wood burner yet but will report here when i do
my dough today stretched thin and cooked up perfectly
the rb xoes require pizza rotation but is less prone to charring the pies backside the way the uuni does if you are not constantly monitoring.
i do like the lack of a front door on rb as with uuni it can be a little tricky at times to affix properly and the flamekeeper hood at front edge of uuni slides into the slots and shakes loose creating a potential burn condition on your arm if it falls down while youre manipulating food inside the oven.
Uuni instrux manual is like an ikea assembly instruction book. No words, just pictures.
i have to admit that thr roccbox is easier to make pizza on than the uuni, but the bge is superior to roccbox for za for one reason. You can open the lid and see the. Entire pie. On rb you better hope the peel slides under the pie as opposednto pushing it back to the flame.
overall, id rate the roccbox a 10 out of 10...for portability, quality material construction and compa ny responsiveness. The uuni is cheaper but its cheap feeling and company resources definitely arent directed toward marketing, customer service, or timely new product accessory delivery..GAS BURNER
Bge is the king but in areas where propane use is mandated, the roccbox plays the role of pizza prince.
in the case of roccbox cost being 2x that of uuni, you truly get what you pay for and you dont get what you think you pay for on the uuni...i wish i eschewed the uuni and gotten the roccnox a year ago.

Thanks for the write up. Another tool to add to my wish list.

You bet fellas...i usually dont hesitate buying quality, bge, snap on tools, etc. I regret not getting roccbox to begin with. Dual fuel capable, reliable operation, solid quality construction and simplicity of use all add up
I do not mean to be negative toward uuni but their lack of communication pushed me over the edge and a gift card arrived at an opportune time so what the heck, i got it and am very happy with it.. -
Nice write up and thanks for the follow up post.

Great report, thanks. Maybe I'll add it to my wish list.

right? I believe proper protocol was followed here. If he had said "hang on while I take a picture of this food for my internet friends" there would be no chicks anywhere. Chicks > Photos. It's science. look it up.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -

How hot does it get at the feet of the cooker? Can you set it on a picnic table?XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

The feet extend to a level that elevates the bottom of the oven well above anh surface. I cooked on a Rubbermaid plastic folding table with no problem, had roccbox on high heat too...Thatgrimguy said:How hot does it get at the feet of the cooker? Can you set it on a picnic table? -

Thanks for the honest review.
I'd agree that you benefit from the extra weight of the RB over the unni. That is due to better construction and thicker materials which will enable better heat spreading and such. I was skeptical of the thin light look of the unni so it's nice to hear from someone who has used both.
Sounds like a fun tool for a tailgate. Everyone gets a fresh pie and it won't matter if you burn a couple on the flame in that environment anyway.

This is a good review from a person who has cooked thousands of pizzas with Roccbox.

The more I read, the more I want a Roccbox. For now, my 1980's vintage electric oven with pizza steel will have to suffice. Made some pies last week for my son and mom... in HER 1980's vintage oven. Among my best ever!
Egged pies are more trouble than they're worth.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

This is all interesting. I'm pretty happy with pizza results on the egg for the frequency that I cook it. However, if I was ever tempted to get a dedicated oven, I think the Roccbox would be great. And then if you reeeeeally enjoy that... I guess the next step is a big stone oven on your patio.

Kenji is way off in that vid. Spinning the pie once on the egg is a PITA IMO, fighting the flame, let alone 4 times in 2 min. It's really nice on the BS to shut off the carousel, launch, turn it on, and let it go until the ride is over.Carolina Q said:

The pies I see off this thing are heavily burnt on one end...not the classic, even leoparding and char bubbles. 12" is a cute mouth too, another dealbreaker. Launching with an Al peel, perforated or non, is not my cup of tea either. Another area I think Kenji is off, might be fine for a 10" personal pie though, dunno.
At least the RB forces users away from the parchment, riding without training wheels.
