TIL - I nearly threw 3 butane lighters in the trash - BUT
Up front - I prefer using those cheap disposable butane lighters to start whatever type starter. OK?
Tonight our temperature was already down to 23º when I went out to fire up my egg.
First, the oldest butane would spark, but not light. The second one would spark, but go out like the first. The third which was BRAND NEW wouldn't do anything! Even my foul language did no good but I took all 3 inside and threw them in the trash! 5 minutes later it hit me...maybe these were too cold! Sure enough each one fired up like a 409 Chevy!

As we all did. Boyle was a chemist for sure, but the law follows from statistical mechanics more than anything else. But I digress...DMW said:

Since I'm here-for some it may be time to address the properties of moisture contained within gasket-to-gasket surfaces and sub-freezing temperatures. I use pieces of aluminum foil between the dome and base to keep them from freezing shut. Many other options available. Just plan for it.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...

Now, is room-temperature lump easier to light than cold-soaked?
I know that's true for firewood (and lump won't release bugs warming up as firewood does).“The best way to execute french cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken."
