"And we are both named Matt. I don't care what someone rides either as long as they ride. "
    "Reeks of confirmation bias"

OK- well for those of us who don't ride and aren't name Matt, we will just stand aside and not have confirmation bias.

I guess i must just be lucky. $13 always in stock at home Depot less than 5 miles away. Made in USA. I briefly considered trying these fancy bags everyone talks about but if it ain't broke.

Pic didn't work but they're RO

Appears you're questioning your lump decisions, hence the post.

Nice Harley in your picture.  Now, what made you buy a Harley, say over a Honda?

Just what floats my boat is all. I'll be the first to say Harley is not the end all of motorcycles. They're extremely overpriced for what they are and i recognize that but i don't go around bashing other manufacturers either. Here come the hypocrite comments. .

My point about lump is this. If one brand gets you the opportunity to cook more often over another, or a different flavor profile you're looking for, i get it. But that doesn't make the cheaper brand junk as some on this forum seem to feel. As i said i have time to wait out the dirty smoke so no issue there. This is starting to sound like a lifter thread on the Harley forums.

A year ago when i joined this forum everyone seemed to praise RO. Lately it seems as the wind has changed and i think it's uncalled for. If there's nicer products available that's great but it doesn't automatically make the old ones obsolete.

It's very possible I was drunk, but I don't remember this period of the forum.

@DynaGlide, lump questions have to be in the top 5 asked here, maybe top 2, you must know that. No change in the wind, I think people stop answering most of the time and every once in a while a thread catches fire.  100% personal preference and opinion.  I don't care if you cook on old tires.

30 min to an hr preheat clears things up.
I think it could be a variety of factors.
    1.  Greasy cooks before
    2.  Lighting technique
    3.  Lack of time management

The neutral charcoal flavor so I can add flavored wood argument is so weak, akin to the I didn't buy a $1000 grill to run cheap charcoal.  It's not a Focking Ferrari. Lol

Just toss a couple chunks of fruit wood on and roll.  Some refined smoke palettes here.  Should I use peach?  No wait, grape?  Or Persimmon, with pork?   Cause you really can taste the subtle smoke differences in the end product, right?

Eggs are efficient compared to the other cookers, so letting it cruise control for an extra 30 minutes is nothing, in the grand scheme of things.  Another weak argument IMO.

If neutral flavor is what I was after, I'd get a gas grill with a cute little smoker box.  Lights fast, neutral, I can smoke.  Why d!ck around with lump?

  • if california seceded =) would anyone care =)=)=)

I know you say that somewhat in jest so I throw this out in modest defense of our brothers and sisters to the west (as if they need it):

they are by far the largest economy in the US (14% of the whole thing) and 6th largest economy in the world (bigger than France and Brazil). Plus it's such a badass place. The politics would drive me nuts but they drive me nuts here too. I'm way in the middle of both. That said, I've had to learn to not let politics get in the way of a good thing. Love living here, and I would live in Cali (the right part for me) in a second. That's the cool thing about Cali and TX. Both big places but once you get past the overriding stereotypes, there is an ass for every seat.

California has about 14% of the U.S. population, so being 14% of the economy does not make them an economic powerhouse. When it comes to feeding the nation, however, I would imagine that percentage is up there.

Forgot central market lump (HEB), a good buy when on sale, good lump.
That is the last bag of mesquite I used That smoked for an hour I was shocked at how long it took to burn clean.  I used it for years and loved it outside of the sparks and ash that are inherent with mesquite. It smoked heavy for an hour. I was so surprised based on my past usage. Usually mesquite is clean but sparks like a mother and all mesquite produces a ton of ash. I can get past the sparks and ash but this was like burning coal or something. Didn't finish that bag either. Not sure if they changed suppliers or I just got a bad one but I was really bummed when I encountered that.
Ok, I bought a bag of CM mesquite for some steaks...and it's trash, you didn't get an outlier.  It's heavy, doesn't clink at all, sooty and the smoke doesn't quit.  It ran for a couple of hours at 300, then up to 500+ for a good sear and then let it run some more and it was still nasty-smoky.  I'm going to light it up today and let it burn out at 500 or so and be done with it.
