If someone wants to cook with RO, RW, KJ, Cowboy, BGE lump, buffalo dung etc. then let them. Why is it such a BFD???
You right @caliking - I got out of control calling out a non cooker and I knew better.

Brother calking, you seem rather animated if not agitated.  This is in fact a lump thread after all.  You know how this goes!  I've recently been doing my chicken cooks over duraflame logs.  Best results ever.
Empty house. Bottle of Scotch will soon match it.

But I still don't get why so many knickers get in a bundle over this.

I find BFD expensive and unecessary. However, if you do knell for BFD, you're a SOB.

My RW in plain view and not in some container that has an unknown content

@heavyG - I'm not the first to call you out on the non cooking post.  Post up a cook or keep on being googles best friend for discussion purposes.
You and your cronies can keep calling me out (just don't skip right to the triple dog dare tho!) but I should share my already made headstone with you so you can decide perhaps that there is a better use of your time.

It's actually a rather inexpensive (WRT bandwidth) protocol and rather useful in many circumstances. Not always needed, but can help with convergence times.

@Mattman3969 - I did forget to say that your comment - "My RW in plain view and not in some container that has an unknown content " actually cracked me up and made me spew a bit of tea. You've really got this whole thing wrapped up in some sort of conspiracy.

To be honest tho, that is a Schrödinger's Box - there's actually no lump (of any brand) at all in it until you take the lid off and look inside.

  • I've seen a few bags sell from the Ace in Stillwater, MN on August's reports.  Was that you?
It was not me, but it could have been a co-worker I gave instructions to for getting it there. I'm still in good shape from what I'm sure will be my last lump order from Firecraft. I'm guessing it will be my lump source going forward. Even better would be if a few more people start ordering it and they start stocking it.

    I'm sorry folks, Heavy's right.
No lump, is worth double the price of RO.
It would be different if it improved your end product.

If it needs to burn a bit.  Light, then prep.
Y'all are actin' like it's your first time on a grill.  =)

@Focker - I'm gonna agree and disagree with you. The end product is taste, I agree.  The time waiting for royal choke to burn clean is not the same as RW.  I can cook on either if I have the time to wait.  Most times I nor my family do not want to wait for the long time for royal smoke to clear especially on week night cooks.

The disagree is I don't think heavy G cooks much less knows how the lump reacts .  He plays this same game here and on the guru site. Between both sites I don't think I've ever seen one of his cooks.

No no disrespect to u @focket

Maybe not all RO is created the same, but I notice zero difference in the amount of time it takes to get it burning clean relative to RW. Both are clean in no time at all for me.

I prefer RW and go through about a bag a week, but the difference is so negligible that I never have an issue using RO. It’s more of a convenience thing having RW delivered in bulk, and not having to dig through bags at HD. And I think RW might burn longer but it’s only a gut feeling.

I've never understood why people have a $1000 kamado and whine about lump prices. Also... I'd RW burns twice as long... Is Royal Choke really a deal?
RW is better, just not 15$ per bag better. Not everyone with a kamado has Ron's money :-) but I do understand your point
With ACE coupons, that difference is more $7-8 here. A few times a year, they have 50% coupons as well. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a bag of Rockwood
    Found a ACE coupon :-)

Have literally burned through a few truckloads of green, red, and blue bag..have never experienced the "royal smoke phenomenon".
