gloves to use for removing plate setter, cast iron cookware
I have pair of welder's gloves, but they just don't cut it. It was pretty uncomfortable last night when I removed a cast iron oyster pan from my Egg.

Since you already have the platesetter this will fix you up.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I like the grip these give. They say 540 degrees but if you are quick you can handle higher then that.

First up, welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Above all, have fun.
Regarding gloves, I use old firefighter gloves. Stop by your local station and inquire where they source theirs. You may be able to negotiate a deal, pulled pork for some no-longer used gloves. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
Sorry, not much help here. I use welders gloves for egg furniture and usually kitchen hot pads (folded or double) for cookware. ALWAYS have a nearby landing spot selected in advance. And make sure no kids or pets are underfoot. Then again, I don't often move a hot PS or cook in CI on the egg.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Get a PSWOO , it has handles and solves your problem

Just a. Ore that not all welding gloves are created equal. Some are simple leather while others have minimal lining and yet others have an insulated lining. The insulated type is by far the best option. I recommend actually trying them on as dexterity is a key factor. The newer high heat gloves are also a great option for this issue and offer great dexterity. Always have a landing zone as mentioned above.

Mine is not quite like this one from Amazon, but similar. I find that using gloves to remove a red hot platesetter is not for me. I like my hands on a tool rather than the platesetter that's hotter than he11. I have a XL and it hasn't broken the platesetter yet.
edit: I have a pair of welders gloves and a pair of Guy Fieri oven gloves for cast iron. The GF gloves are comfy and work well.

I've been using these for about 2 months and they have served me well. I probably look like a huge tool wearing them, but thats really not much different than any other day.

@bruce527 I've been using these for a few months now. I like that they're silicon so they wont hold liquids like fabric ones will. Also, typical kitchen mitts will burn when removing hot things. I burnt our set of kitchen mitts while removing a cast iron pizza pan from the egg. Using these, I'm able to carry my 400-500 degree cast iron pizza pan from the drieway into the the kitchen (about 50ft) with out too much heat transfer. They clean up real easy, and some off easy as well as I have large hands, hence the XXL size.

I like to use 3 sets.
HD welder's gloves for general greasy grid removing stuff.
Pitt Mitts for more dexterity, removing vessels from the grill.
Kevlar furnace gloves for seasoning CI, removing platesetter.
I can hold a screaming hot CI pan in my hand to season several times in one sesh, place it back into the oven, no problems.BrandonQuad Cities

Firefighters gloves work great. Insulated for heat protection, waterproof, and hold up well to hard use. Biggest issue is they are more expensive than a lot of other gloves.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
I guess I'm in the market now. I didn't use my welding gloves often, but I did use them. Yesterday, my dog decided my gloves were looking neglected so now I only have a glove for my left hand. I was devastated!

Used them for over two years now. Need to buy another pair. I left them outside and they got wet. Appears to have compromised them some, but still use them. A few others have these too.
One note, these are high cuff, which is good when doing wok, caveman, or any high temp cooks.

I forgot I had this. Received as a gift a while back. All-Clad mitt, pretty thick insulated cotton with silicone ribs. I've never used it. Anyone know if it works? Description says 500°. They aren't sold in pairs, just ambidextrous singles. I only received one.

These are similar to the Ove Gloves' I have. I've run mine through the washer several times and haven't really noticed any difference.
Edit, I didn't notice they were "high cuff". Seems like a nice feature.

I know it's not what you asked but I use OTT grate lifter. Best thing I've personally found.

I've used these for over 5 years now and they are still fantastic. No issues reaching into a hot fire and grabbing ceramic or CI.

For the plate setter, I don't put the glove on, I fold it over one corner of the plate setter (like a kitchen hot pad) and lift

I found out the hard way that my gloves protect from heat about 4 seconds less than it takes to get a hot plate setter from the egg to a safe landing zone....and I have the scars to prove it. Now I use a glove as well as a folded silicone pad.
