The Cultured Caveman

I ran across a tri tip for the first time at the local grocery store. I've never had tri tip before since @jeremiah didn't bring me any of his at Butt Blast. I figured I'd give it a whirl and do SV since it's nearly impossible to screw up. I liberally coated a tri tip with Oakridge Santa Maria and put it in the SV for 8 hours at 135F.

In the jacuzzi

Post bath and before a second light coating of Santa Maria

Got a nice bed of coals going on the XL. I have the new and improved fire ring with an expansion gap.

It's Caveman time.

Slicing it up.

Time to grub

Thanks for looking.

That makes this uncultured (don't own a sous vide) caveman very jealous and hungry.

You were too busy with the cookbook to walk down and get some of Jeremiah's tri.

I like this cook!  I must have my head in the sand, what is this new and improved Fire ring with expansion gap you speak of?

The best way to cook a tri-tip but I haven't finished all caveman style.  Great work brother and plate.

That looks amazing. I have a reverse sear tri-tip cook planned for Saturday, if I don't chicken out I'll go caveman (I'll probably chicken out).

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the kind words. It's pretty bulletproof with the SV and caveman.  Since it's already cooked, there's no worry of over/undercooking while cavemanning. Just sear until the crust is to your liking. I went about a minute a side.

My only issue I had with sv'ing tt was the seasoning seemed overpowering. But that was my own fault as I likely over seasoned prior to the SV.
