My Wife and I are headed to NOLA next week for our first trip. We would love to hear of any local recommendations for restaurants, bars, and places to listen to music. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

I was there last month, see this thread for good input. Download the No Wait App to save some frustration

K Paul's was fantastic

If you're looking for an upscale Creole NOLA fine dining experience, check out The Commander's Palace. You won't be disappointed.
-
I second Commanders Palace. That place is top notch. Get the 1-1-1 soup for a starter.

Kinda hard to imagine getting anything but a great meal in Nawlins.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.

Central Grocery muffuletta...possibly the best sandwich I have ever had. Touristy, yes...tasty, yes. Get a Barq's rootbeer and some Zapp's chips and it is a crazy good lunch.
-
I hit a few of these places every time I'm in town- Cochon Butcher, St James Cheese Co, GW Fins, and Toups Meatery. Enjoy
-
Spent a week there last month. Commanders Palace, R'volution, Luke, Mr. B's, Ruby Slipper. As you can imagine, plenty of good eats. I will say that for oysters, try Bourbon House. I usually hit Felix or Acme, but Bourbon House was as good without the long lines. Also highly recommend the WWII museumLGBE-1999, MBGE-2003, SBGE-2007

I haven't been to Commanders in some time, so this may be outdated info, but I believe it is still jacket required for gentlemen. If you do go there (and it is a place everyone should go at some point), pack accordingly.

The muffuletta is a must but I have to say that the Central Grocery's version (the original) has slid a bit. Any John Besh restaurant is aces but I recommend Luke, great bar also. If you're a meataholic Cochon will take care of your needs. My favorite place for all thing oyster is Superior Seafood, it about half way out the street car line on the south side. They have a dish of creamed crawfish over cornbread. @#$^sake. For nostalgia hit up Pascal Manale, barbecue shrimp. It's at the end of the streetcar line.
Have a great time. One of the great cities of the world. -
As far as music there is a ton. Preservation Music Hall is a must. Head over to Frenchman St. A ton of bars with great music. Snug Harbor has top notch music and it is on Frenchman. Check out Tipitina's lineup. Taxi in and taxi out at Tip's but there is no problem getting taxis there.

Shaya (Greek/Middle Eastern - best meal I've had in a while, everything absolutely delicious)
La Petite Grocery (James Beard Award Winning chef)
Cochon Butcher (get a charcuterie board)
Coquette (had brunch here, 4 or 5 course? fantastic)
Pizza Domenica
K-Paul's
Out of all of those, I highly suggest Shaya.

Avoid Galatoire's, prices keep going up and quality keeps going down.
Give us a full report on your return. -

Been a few years ago, but I'll third, or fourth, or wherever the count is on Commander's Palace. We also really enjoyed Jacques Imo's.

Commander's Palace does have a dress code:
Dress Code
- Business Attire
- Jackets are preferred for gentlemen
- Collared shirts and closed-toe shoes required for gentlemen
- No shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts, sweat shirts or sweat pants
- Jeans are discouraged; ripped jeans are not allowed
-
He's okay because he ain't no gentleman

If you are eating in the French Quarters, we visit Felix's. Its across from Acme Oyster House. If you want the best service and free oysters, sit at the oyster bar! Also, take a visit out to the Garden District! Enjoy

Nice line up, but you realize you chose 3 Link restaurants and 2 Besh restaurants? (Not that there's anything wrong with that - all good choices). I think Herbsaint is the best restaurant in the city.

Great BBQ shrimp is easy. Key is fresh giant head on shrimp.

I couldn't get out of that city fast enough. It smelled horrible. I've read great stories about the food, but couldn't get past the smell long enough to dine.
Beautiful and lovely Villa Rica, Georgia
