Burgoo

Options

Decide to make some burgoo today. My wife is having her wisdom teeth cut out tomorrow so I wanted to cook something and have some left overs for 2-3 days. The recipe is one I got from an older friend that's been passed down for a long time. It's way better then chili. It's got a lot of different ingredients but man it's so good.

@theyolksonyou - Burgoo is a BBQ'd meat n veggie stew.  If made right its very good but if not you'll swear it off.

@g8golfer - nice Goo.  you mind sharing the recipe?

It's a stew kinda like chili but way better. I will list the recipe below. If you like chili or vegetables soup then try this. It's just different lol.

1 pound of ground chuck or beef
    1 pound group turkey
    1 pound group pork
    1 pound of lamb
I personally don't use lamb so I substitute it with one of the meats above
    1 can of mushrooms
    2 large chopped onions
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
    2 cans of chili beans
1 can of light red kidney beans
1 can of dark red kidney beans
2 large cans of spaghetti O's
1 large bottle of spicy ketchup
    Brown sugar
1 large can of Parmesan chesse
    1/2 bottle of paprika
1 large can of tomato juice

-Brown all your meat in 1 pan and then drain it
-Add onions and cook until tender
-In another large cooker add the crushed tomatoes, chili beans, kidney beans, spaghetti O's, ketchup, paprika, and tomato juice on low heat and let it simmer or come to a boil. On the tomato juice just add what you need. You don't need to add the whole can. On the mushrooms and beans I strain them before I add them cause I don't want my burgoo to soupy.
-Then add the meat with the other ingredients and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes on low heat.
-Add the can of Parmesan chesse and brown sugar. Use the brown sugar to make as sweet at you like. I use about a 1/4 of the 1 pound bag.

I added red pepper flakes to make spicy. If you decide to make it and have any question just PM me and I will answer. It's really simple and it makes a ton of burgoo. I think this recipe has been used for 50+ years.

I usually cook it 2 times a year. A batch in the spring and a batch in the fall. I know it's a little different then what most ppl cook but I promise it's really good. We have a local golf tournament and the course makes a batch that feeds 100-150 ppl and the players rave about it.

This sounds like it was created on a snowed in evening when the power went out to the freezer.
