@Foghorn. Exactly why i went with the XL. I do a bunch of bigger cooks and wanted the room. I love that thing. Wish i would have gotten an egg sooner.

@Mikea5232 - Can't tell for sure but looks like the fire ring removal made for enough space to bring it home. Again, congrats-however you get there is all that matters in the back-yard Q world.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! @lousubcap the bird barely cleared the dome with the fire ring removed. Thanks again for the tip on removing the fire ring! It made the cook possible! I've only had the egg three weeks so I'm still a green horn with what all can be done on these babies.

@Mikea5232 - glad to have offered the thought. With the XL I doubt you will be in that trick-sack very often but now you know that not only do you have the head-room but can also run with enough lump to nail the cook. Again-way to go.
And since I'm here- the other end of the space management gig- take the clip off your dome thermo so you don't impale any groceries with it. Use the clip/spacer with the thermo on the outside to get more clearance. All that and not even a XL owner.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Not everyone likes turkey in my family. I'm not much of a turkey fan but the one i made was awesome. We have been making turkey and ham together for ever for our holiday gatherings. Ribs were a very nice change up. -
I love me some bird and not just thanksgiving. When they go on sale ill get at least one, maybe two and cook a bird for the breast meat and make smoked turkey enchiladas with the rest of the meat. It never fails to wow everyone.
