You could also zip out to The Oasis on Lake Travis. This is the most touristy spot in Austin and the food
sucks. Still worth a visit. The Oasis Brewing Co. turns out some great beers and a margarita on the deck of The Oasis overlooking the lake is a rite of passage around here. We were out there 2 weeks ago. This is taken from the brewing co toward the restaurant.

Screw the Oasis - I prefer to hit Lucys fried chicken on the other side of peninsula you are looking at in this pic.  Way better food, similar view, easier crowds to deal with.  Oasis brewing company however is pretty damn good to hang out and have some beer.  Too bad the weather is awful.

XLBGE, LBGECharbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Not quite in Austin, TX City Limits
Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

i prefer lucy's food as well and go there 10-1 over the Oasis. I live 5 minutes from Lucy's. I still think Oasis/Oasis Brewing probably has some sway over people looking to hit some of the highlights. Lucy's is definitely more "local" if you will but the masses still go to the Oasis (which is why I rarely do)

Fack I hate the Oasis.  Too many long waits for a crap table with out of town visitors.  Oh, and the food.

Did the brewery turn over?  I thought it was an Uncle Billy's when it was first built.

Yeah Uncle Billys left when the center went belly up- The Oasis brewing Company only has one floor and basically a huge patio.  Downside is the brewery is only open Th- Sun

It was good. Really good! We got there around 8:45am and had food in our hands by 12:30am. We were able to wait under the awning, which was nice because it rained on and off throughout the morning, and were able to use some of the free chairs that were out. Crowd was great, and the employees from Franklin's were great, keeping everyone informed of timing, and even bringing out a bunch of umbrellas for the line.

We tried a little bit of everything, and it was all good! The brisket was amazing, of course. The turkey was actually one of my favorites, probably because they dipped it in some awesome sauce that looked like melted butter, but it had just the right amount of smoke in it. My six year old pounded a whole sausage in about five minutes.

The staff was even nice enough to take me and the family into the back to look at the smokers, and we got to spend about 10 minutes with them taking about their whole workflow.

Now I don't really feel like eating, probably for about three days. Afterwards, we had a few hours before our flight, so we did a quick tour of the capital building. Then on to the airport. All in all, a great day, and we are glad we did it!

Oh... And we are definitely planning another Texas trip, sooner rather than later. I'll definitely look up some of these other spots on our next visit, when we have more time...

  • glad you got in. Score for sure. Still 4 hour wait on a rainy Tuesday...brutal.

And that awesome turkey sauce? You nailed it. It's butter.

Hope the weather cooperates better next time. There is so much outdoor stuff to do here that bad weather can limit your options.

Congrats on going for it, seeing it thru and enjoying the entire experience.  If you ever want to tame a brisket, now you know the elusive brisket target.  And great move to get a behind the curtain look.
Austin, definitely a right-of-brisket passage in my book.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Yep.  Glad you made it there.  We also got a tour of the pits when we went which was great.
