looking for dill pickle recommendations

This may sound like a strange request, but I just can't seem to find a decent brand of dill pickles for hamburgers. To me most hamburgers purchased at restaurants have pickles which are far superior to those major brands available at the supermarkets. When I find ones I like I ask the manager to find out the brand and it's always some weird name like Acme Dill Pickles or such which come in 5 gallon jars purchased at wholesale food distributors. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks - I just Googled them and it looks like they are spicy - right? That's not what I'm looking for. I just want old fashioned hamburger dill pickles.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I'm currently settling for these, but "settling" is the key word as I'm not happy with them.

I will leave this here in case anyone has something to say about homemade pickles

The only widely available grocery store brand of pickles I like are Klaussen.
I have a case of McClure Spicy Spear pickles arriving tomorrow but those clearly are not something you want. They do make a nice garlic dill but they only sell them whole or in spears not slices.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -

Thanks - hmmm, never heard of them until now - did a search and I see my Kroger carries them. Looks like the dills are only in spears - so do you slice them for burgers? Burger use is what I'm really after.Ima_good_egg said:Bubbies gets my vote.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
Maybe you can perfect a brine that you keep in the fridge and keep tossing cuke slices in there?
I do really like spicy. I like the spicy mclures you posted as well as Wickles. I also like Famous Dave's pickles, but Costco won't have them again until summer.

I used to only buy Claussen until I found Boars Head pickles. They only sell whole and spears. I always buy the spears and cut the pickle to my preferred thickness which often times varies for sliders or regular size burgers.

'Nother vote for Claussen's. Consistently very good. I used to be very fond of Kosher gherkins, but haven't seen any for some years.

I don't care for the McClures pickles. I have to agree with @Wolfpack, Claussen is your pickle.RRP said:I'm currently settling for these, but "settling" is the key word as I'm not happy with them.

and you can use sous vide to speed up the process to a couple hours. I do this and the wife likes them better than any store bought brand -
I'm partial to Mt Olive, but that's likely due to it being a southern thing and growing up with it.

If you can find them try Heinz. They are my favorite, but they are hard to find around me.

Does Bubbies make hamburger dill in addition to their Kosher dills? Based on your description, it sounds like you do not want a Kosher dill. As good as Bubbies and Boar's Head are, they are probably not what you want.RRP said:

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
mrs wages refrigerator pickles. put them in a sousvide bath for a couple hours and its shelf stable. have not tried dill yet, mostly just bread and butter

Mount Olive brand hamburger pickles - these are the same brand that's sold to a lot of restaurants here in the 5 gallon buckets.

I love dill pickles as well. I just bought some from Epic Pickles out of York, PA that are fantastic.
They have a website and can order on there. The problem with them being good, is they are $9 for a jar. They also sell lots of other pickled products.

For hamburger chips, I really like the WalMart Great Value ones. As with their other house brands, some are good and some are terrible, but I think this one is a winner.

Ron both of these are good and can be bought at most Sams.

But on that note, I have never had a dill pickle that I didn't like. To me dill pickles are akin to anus, they all taste a like if you close your eyes.

A totally different approach, there is one sandwich shop/deli near me that still has a pickle barrel of whole kosher dills. If I want to step it up a notch I buy one of those and slice it for burgers... I haven't found Bubbies dill "chips", only spears. The do make good Bread and Butter pickle chips that we use with pulled pork.Doug
