Long time coffee drinker myself. Just started with tea the first of the year. Part of my healthier lifestyle (cough). Looking to try some others favorites.

I get my loose leaf from a local place. I also have a Baltimore Coffee and Tea nearby, which also offers nice selections off loose leaf and bagged loose leaf tea.

I had to give up caffeine for health reasons, and many years ago switched from coffee to tea because decaf just wasn't very good.  I came to LOVE tea, to my surprise, but then discovered I had to give tea up for a different health reason!  <sigh>  Getting old ain't always what it's cracked up to be.  ;)  Now I drink one mug a day of decaf coffee.  Sure ain't what I used to love.

There are so very many kinds of tea and such differences in people's tastes that it's impossible to say what you might like.  I'd really urge you to go to a dedicated tea store if there's one in your area, where you can not only talk to the proprietor about teas, learn a little, and probably a taste of a few kinds of teas, but you can probably roam the store and open the jars and just smell them all.  It's amazing, just amazing how different teas are, even just black teas, and different from each other as night and day.  But then there are a million kinds of green tea, and then white teas, oolongs, pu-erh, and more.  You're in for a TREAT!
  • I get my loose leaf local as well. Got on early cut chai without the cinnamon and milk in Afghanistan and it kind of just stuck. The bags are all dry by the time you get it depending on where you are.

I dont coffee. The wifi is spotty in my bathroom and i would never get any work done.

My local place has blends along with with standards. I'll bring you some tins to butt blast. My favorite is hot and spicy. Tastes like a fire ball(candy). There is a poached pear green tea that's really nice. Earl Grey is my favorite "standard" tea. They have a tropical version that is excellent - Island Earl.

I drink 2-3 cups daily. For me, it's an experience for head clearing since it's not just boil and drop the bag, requiring concentration. In the morning, right after work, and at night. I just had the Lady Grey and the lavender is a really nice complement to the bergamot in Earl Grey. There is also a "if you like apple pie" flavor that is nice with a splash of bourbon and some lemon when I have a cold or if I just feel like it.
  • Also you may keep your man card. Drinking burnt boiled beans does not a Y chromosome produce.

Thanks guys....good stuff here....and Dylan....looking forward to the Blast. I don't think we have a store locally.... but need to do some research. I know there is a tea producer here in the state, and would like to make a trip. Thanks for the info.

Wow...I guess we take for granted a lot of things. I love coffee and have a growing affection for the tea. Always been a fan of the sweet ice tea.....but this is a different journey all together. Thanks for sharing.

Suzy likes Earl Grey and English Breakfast. She knows a lot about tea, well, more than I.

I drink instant decaf iced tea sometimes in hot weather, if I can find any jars of it without that god-awful lemon favor. Cold water, tea, a little sugar. Period. No tea bags and definitely couldn't be bothered with loose leaf!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I love hot teas. I'm cheap though and usually stick with a bag of celestial honey vanilla chamomile and run straight hot water over it outta the keurig. That's for night time. During the day time, I like going with loose matcha tea run through the filtered keurig cup thingy with a cinnamon stick for a boost of flavor. Matcha tea has crazy good health benefits.

I'm no pro whatsoever, but I drink Celestrial Green Tea with Lemon and Ginseng. Walmart or Kroger...can't remember which.

I've started a detox kick for a few weeks...

    2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
    2 Tbs Lemon Juice
    2 Tbs Honey
    1/4 tsp Cinnamon
    1/4 tsp Cayanne
    1/4 tsp Ginger

mixed with 1 cup of the hot tea.

I like it. No great big difference in feeling, but it is satisfying.

    Thanks my friend,

Love the smell of coffee but hate the taste. I don't even like coffee ice cream. Being a CPO in the Navy in my former life this caused me to be seen as abnormal.

I love tea, and this is my current favorite:

I add one tsp of local honey I buy from a beekeeper at work to help with allergies.

Good point on the local honey to help with allergies. I'm able to find local stuff at Wegmans in a pinch(Lord Byrons in my pic up top) but I get it from beekeepers at the county fair or farmer's markets when I can.

I like Yerba Mate tea.  I started out just getting the tea bags and at one point I had one of the gourds and special straws. They look like something illegal but they are not.  The straw has a filter/screen built into it so you are basically drinking loose leaf. The gourd got a bit nasty after a while so I don't have it any more.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

whats the easiest quickest way to make tea without the bags.  i do the 30 ounce yeti sat/sun religiously between 4 and 5 am depending on sunup. that gets me to about noon on the boat before heading in. oolong, black, or a black cinnamon mix. herbal and green are not for me. always hear about the benefits of green, where do the others stand. i just do the 2 bags in the yeti now for the simplicity

There are some to-go cups with a french press built in. Other wise, boiling water than steeping for 5 minutes in a  pot with a loose-leaf insert would be the way to go. Otherwise, bags are going to be the simplest thing. I have so paper and nylon filters that you could use too. If you are in a hurry in the morning, just pre-fill the filters the night before.

The filters I use are similar to these:

I've found myself drinking more and more hot tea lately.  Still haven't found a "go-to" but enjoy trying all the different types.  I like the process/ritual of it.....probably why I like smoking a pipe also.
