OT: Looking For Feedback

So as I have mentioned before, I am starting up a catering side gig to hopefully allow the wife to retire in 2 years. With that in mind, a friend graciously designed a logo for me, for the cost of some brisket. The name "Goin' Deep" is a nod to my time spent prowling the world's oceans while breathing amine and recycled farts onboard submarines.

Anyhow, I would appreciate some feedback on the logo.

    It looks great.

Just a thought, if you're going with the military theme from your time, what if you did the look of a long barrel smoker that has some features of a sub?

(I know how much of an a$$ pain it is to change a logo after sending it to a designer. I had to do it twice with my company last year...so this was not mentioned on a whim. This one looks great. Full disclosure, my brain went somewhere else when it said go deep. I didn't see any fishing gear so I just assumed  ;))

Thanks Brent. The friend that did the work has a degree in Marketing, and Graphics Design. I leaned heavily on his knowledge and insight.

You should try Triox/Trimix, Heliox, and Nitrox. They are much more tolerable than amines and farts. Trust me on this one brother.

I thought about a sub shaped silhouette with smoke coming out of the sail, to appeal to the military submarine community around where I live, but I didn't want to confuse the core business I'm trying to promote.

I also went with "Goin' Deep" to allow all the gutter minded folks to interpret however they wish.

I have dove once on Triox, but typically just stick to straight old-fashioned Scuba.

  • @CTMike well give the pig a pirate patch or upside down SGT stripes and looking in a periscope (or whatever you Navy guys do in those little spaces...I tried not to, all my Army training said poke the bear)

I like the logo. The only suggestion would be to eliminate the year. This could possibly turn off potential clients as they see someone who might not be experienced as you are new. I know this has nothing to do with your food or talent but something you might want to consider. Just a thought
    +1

  • I find it a little distracting with all of the 'rustic' marking. If it were mine, I would want to see a side by side comparison with the original and one with half the marks.
I would think about adding some thing there to show you were in the military, it's good marketing for those that support you guys.

Looks good.  Really like the hog and flame, with the flames making the legs.
    A little color wouldn't hurt.
Pink for the hog, orange for the light part of the flame.

Or B in red, B white, and Q blue.

Great point, the year could always be added in the future.

Nice. I like the monochrome look.

If you were inclined to add color I would just color the flames and leave it at that.

I'd make the font size of "Goin' Deep" a skosh bigger and a bit bolder.

Submarines once...  looks good here but certainly some options to consider above.  Best of luck with the catering and that SF road-trip is just around the corner.

Agree with Heavy - increase the size of Goin' Deep.   You can also have several different "treatments" of the logo including colors, reverse images, etc. for different purposes. When using colors, pick some and stick with them and incorporate them into your brand via website, promotional materials, menus, etc.  Also consider a SMALL FONT website address or phone# at the bottom.  Make it easy to contact you.  (20+ years VP sales and marketing here).

I think this infringes on copyrights established by The NC Butt Blast.  Something about the phrase “GOING DEEP” and a pig on the logo gave me an initial Deliverance thought.  I think it needs to reflect more of a military theme if you’re going to keep that name.  Customers may get the idea that you love your pigs a little too much!

I've always heard that the more human like and happy the pig looks, the better the 'Q... Obviously, from viewing and meeting many of the inmates here, the happy human pig image is pure fallacy! =)
