Minimax Nest Failure

Hi All:
Brand-new Egghead here. I've had my Minimax for a couple of weeks. The other day I lifted the MM to move it, and one of the small nuts that connects the handle band to the "legs" of the nest popped off. I tried to re-connect the nut to the bolt, but it somehow got stripped. So, as a MacGyver solution, I threaded the nut back on with some threadlock. Seems to be holding just fine now. Here's my question. Is this common? Are there other issues with the MM nest I should know about? Are there any preventive measures I can take to make sure I don't have a catastrophic failure in the future? Thanks everyone!

There is a fix as they made enhancements to the the handle. Use the search function this forum, a great deal of info is available. Rest easy..... BGE will upgrade it for you.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

My question to BGE is why are dealers not performing the mod prior to sellingthe MM? This is not a new issue and they are selling a flawed egg.Charlotte, NC - Large BGE 2014, Maverick ET 733, Thermopen, Nest, Platesetter, Woo2 and Extender w/Grid, Kick Ash Basket, Pizza Stone, SS Smokeware Cap, Blackstone 36"

How many dealers even know? Just because they sell the product doesn't necessarily mean they know about all that is going on. I wonder if BGE even informs there dealers or just waits for warranty claims.JohnnyTarheel said:My question to BGE is why are dealers not performing the mod prior to sellingthe MM? That would be pretty sad if BGE waits for claims because the warranty claim could be for a new egg if the carrier failed, not to mention a possible tort claim if the damaged egg injured someone or something.chuckytheegghead said:

In the end, they looked after me. However, when I first called I was told it's not a recall, it's not like a car you know. That's BGE Canada at its finest.
-
Even BGE doesn't know about it. I went to the Tucker store their headquarters and asked for thehamdle kit and the guy at the desk had to call Bruce to find out what I was talking about. They didn't have any and still had to mail the kit to me.

Based on the thread link above, looks like I got the new and improved handle construction....

That you do. And it still failed?Steve

The handle on my Kamado Joe Jr stand is still going strong...lol
It's Friday...I had to do it.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
When I installed my "not recalled, improvement" handles I used Red Threadlocker on them... not expecting failures there any longer!aymobley said:Based on the thread link above, looks like I got the new and improved handle construction....

No, the handle didn't fail at all, it was one of the little bolts that holds the band of the handle onto the legs of the nest. Red thread lock on that has fixed the issue.

So lose bolts?
Looks like I will add that to my Egg maintnence regimen. I check my band bolts on my larger eggs every 6 months or so.If there ever comes a time I get rabies, you are high on my Bitin’ List. -

Yes, it was a loose bolt. I am very ocd when it comes to things like that, so it was probably just a case of over-tightening it. I check all fasteners about once every 2 weeks.
