@caliking - You're preaching to the choir. But I'm not going to tell anyone how to take care of their dog...well, I may have made a few comments. They have him on a zillion steroids and other drugs, he's 16 years old, can't get up without assistance, collapses after standing for a few minutes, has bed sores. Pretty soon it might be more appropriate to name him Terrier Schaivo.caliking said:Looks like a nice jaunt, especially for a school night.

But they're good people and they would do anything and spend any kind of money on their animals, and they're on the boards of animal charities, teach animal law classes for the LA bar.

@ScottNC It's not in the pictures, but there was another camp with a bunch of hammocks in the trees. We thought we saw people, but it turns out it was just some colorful old luggage on the ground. Didn't see anyone, but was fun speculating what would attack us. Not really, but we did.ScottNC said:Great post and pictures, interesting place. You captured a bunch in the shots, did you get the feeling you maybe were being watched? Looks like a place you do a lot of digging around although maybe a bit risky. Thanks for posting.

@saluki2007 15 minute drive pulling the boat to the lake, and about 20 minutes averaging 20 mph (boat will do 36 but it was a little rough) on the water. That's what, 7 miles?saluki2007 said:Great pics. Looks like a great place to explorer. How far of a trip was it? Seemed like a long trip for a dingy

@fishlessman I almost ran into the airport runway light pier on the way back (dark). Good thing I saw it on the GPS. Apparently they don't keep the lights on unless a plane is landing. My old GPS shows me on land half the time. Water and land move around over here and you really have to keep updated maps. The breadcrumb trail is the best, regardless of your maps.fishlessman said:cool night trip, when i used to go out on the salt at night it was with an old loran-c. gps rules now, i used to miss destinations by 40 miles, even beached the boat at 30 mph once and had to wait for the tides to turn

I've been trying to figure that out. I would like to. Would love to ride up. I'll shoot you a text.

We're gonna probably hit the road at 9AM - taking the truck and pulling the boat. Leave around 6. Lemme know.

At many smaller, lesser used non-tower airports a pilot is able to turn on the runway lights themselves when they want to land. They use their radio and key the mike a specific number of times in a specific number of seconds and "click" the runway lights up.nolaegghead said:

@nolaegghead
did you upgrade the chip for the gps on the lowrance, i went with the maine only card because it had sebago lake in a higher def. its within a foot accurate on depths and its because they mapped it when the lake was high, has every dock on the lake on it, theres a feature you can find depths and it marks them, set it up for 40 feet last week because that is were the water temps were ideal for salmon and it marked all the 40 foot structure humps. might work for showing the deeper channels down your way
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
@fishlessman
I plan on updating the maps. Also would like to get the satellite overlay - a buddy of mine who pretty much only bass fishes (not my bag) figured out how to build the satellite maps using some software and google maps.
The depth info would be useful, but that stuff can change after a tropical storm. But something is better than nothing. Most of the areas I fish are 2-4' deep. Lake Pontchartrain is about 11' deep, but there are channels cut out, and I noticed a hole in front the the industrial canal in the lake that was 90' - I've actually fished that hole (didn't think it was that deep) for trout in the winter.
Tides around here are no more than a couple feet. Although you have to watch out if you're fishing flats around the intercoastal canal - I've seen boats in three feet of water tip over when that water goes to 6" after a container ship rolls by.

one of the mapping companies has an upgrading system that upgrades the depths as you go over them. you send them your updated depths and they then upgrade your card with everyone elses using the same system. thats something that might be useful your way. the map in the lowrance is almost useless for me but the navonics has me charting out more fishy water. even has the actual sand rock tree overlay to look for sand rock breaks along the coast where the stripers hang out, you can even see some underwater structure highlighting those places with the satelite picture shotsnolaegghead said:@fishlessman
