@Hotch what sealer did you use to reseal the lower vent with? I can't seem to find a high temp sealer. I think the leaking vent is the heart of my temp rapture control problem.
I used this when I needed to seal the lower vent on my SBGE.

sweet! just need $200 more in mods and more practice and I'm all set! I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Just surprised at the way it has behaved so far.
So, this is different than any other egg? :)

Actually, I've been cooking with my MM for about a year.  The biggest "secret" I found was to pull the top completely off for start up and it will come up to temp VERY fast.  I will admit, over that year I have the woo and smokeware cap and a friend of mine gave me a KAB that have all improved the flexibility of the MM.  I love my large (that I've had for > 15 years) but I have no qualms with the MM and if it is just my wife and I, most likely, I will fire up the MM for whatever is being cooked!

@19Sunny45@caliking This is what I used. It was in a kit I ordered that had the little rubber ends for the cooking grids on my GE stove top. Good to 350 degrees.

But any Hi Temp Clear Silicone will work. Like this one:

The guy that bought it likes it so clearly it was me. I figured it was but I just didn't enjoy using it. I cook for 5 most nights so I was either cramming it full which didn't work well or using the larges to cook on. I just prefer the extra room. I didn't plan on traveling with it so it was just a smaller version is something I had 2 of already.  I enjoyed playing with it and I'm glad it found a new home. I'm out $100 and learned it wasn't for me. Cheapest lesson I've ever learned!

I'm with you Tex, I like having some real estate when cooking. Cramming food in isn't my style.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker I'm with ya man!  If I still had 2 kids at home and entertained regularly I would probably be into the XL's!  Glad your MM found a good home and best of luck with the large!  Hope to cross paths in the future (As a fellow Texan.. Even though I live in TN... by birthright I am a birth certificate carrying Republic of Texas citizen FOR EVER)!! :)

You know where to find me :)

I've had the large for over 10 years and the 2nd one for 3 or so. Pretty much know what I'm in for by now with those.

I have 3 kids at home- 17, 18, and 21. Our meals are big.

And by the way- I freaking LOVE my new blackstone griddle. That thing is fun and can crank out the food!

  • So doing my first DO ROAST on the MM discovered that she only lasts 3 hours @ 300 F next will be prepared for another load of lump!

I just did a 6 hour, (all day cooking) making several different items, I was able to maintain temp in the MM throughout, however, I was using a plate setter, and filled the MM with lump right up to the bottom of the plate setter which was elevated slightly, by not setting the legs in the slots.
300F to 375F, throughout, using what I think was a pretty solid source for lump (when I say solid, I mean very good). I have gone longer at lower temps as well. I will also say I was working in 60F days, with not a lot of wind.
I am just saying there are ways to make it longer than three hours should you wish to do so.
I love my MM. It is much more versatile than I had previously thought when I decided to purchase mine.
Hoping you will enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.
