BMWs are hopeless in any amount of snow without winter tyres.JustineCaseyFeldown said:
Here too. It used to be that everyone knew how to drive.bgebrent said:Prediction of any snow here results in drivers in the ditch. When we get predictions of rain, there's a run on TP and vodka. I heard being heavy on the brake worked best in these snowy conditions @JustineCaseyFeldown. We have 1 inch. Woohoo.
But one year I saw 17 cars off the road after an inch of snow. This was on 213 (fishless knows about 213)

We had our snow Thursday. About an inch, not much in the manner of a winter event, other than the-2F wind chill. Perfect for smoking ribs."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

This was Raleigh I believe. Not last year but a few years ago - 2014 I think. The "snowpocalypse!" There is actually a funnier version of that pic - I'll see if I can find it.bhedges1987 said:I don't know if this is real. I saw on twitter this was a city last year that got 2"of snow... looks like the end of the world
We got several inches of snow - rather unexpectedly, starting around 1pm or so. It took me two hours to get back home from work that night in a front wheel drive sedan (this was pre S5) - a commute that normally takes 10 minutes. I kept having to turn around because I'd run into a spot on the road that wasn't flat, and, well...
People here have close to no friggin clue how to drive in snow. And there are almost no plows to clear roads. So what you get is an expose on the decisions people make in split seconds when they are confronted with something they're not used to. They tend to make... really sh!tty decisions. It's not pretty. I don't think this is a "Southern man" thing so much as an human thing.

my wife worked in DC, and they used to call off work for a half inch of snow.
just feather the clutch a bit. Or if you are driving an automatic, drive slower than you normally do
that's pretty much it
expecting 8" here. If it were a weekday, kids would have school still
God I hope Rodney has 4 wheel drive, snows and tire chainsSteve

I think the Sunbeam bread company hacked the weather service computers. The grass isn't even covered.

How I feel about snow here. Haven't even shifted into 4HI with the Chevy, it plows through the snow.Phatchris said:Expecting 8-12 today... Can't wait to test out my new Duratracs!
Good tires.
Tube sand.
Go light on the gas.
Fall back a good distance.
Allow for a little extra time to get from A to B.

It's not really the snow it's the ice. I slid across my patio earlier to get to my eggs to do burgers. My whole patio is solid ice right now and about half our cup de sac was a solid sheet of ice this morning. Was a really weak storm here overall though.

We had some nice big chunks of sleet mixed in that provided some decent traction.Lit said:It's not really the snow it's the ice. I slid across my patio earlier to get to my eggs to do burgers. In 14 we went to the HBPA show in Nashville. They got a bunch of the white stuff. It was scary, the state doesn't have any plows! It's one thing around town, the interstate was bad. You would be moving along then wham, no plowing at all. You hit 6-8" snow at 65, it's real fun. We barely made it there before they shut the roads down all together. It's also real nice walking in Nash Vegas when they don't shovel either!
-
We got more than expected. Maybe 2". But the roads were a sheet of ice. Called off baseball practice and started drinking...
-
Never knew if this was true or not, but supposedly, years ago, Chapel Hill got a couple inches of snow. No snow plows so they just opened up the fire hydrants.
Guessing that's the last time they did that.
Can anyone confirm this? Would love to know!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
