Don't buy off amazon.
Thermoworks is a great company with great support.
A thermopen a thermometer that is very accurate and displays internal meat temp in 1 or 2 seconds. A thermo pop is a lot cheaper and takes only a couple seconds longer to display temp.

Get the hot pink one, it's the fastest.

First, welcome to the forum.
While I think everyone should own a Thermopen, I wonder why you want to buy one before knowing what it is?

Not to talk you out of a therma pen but I just got a javelin pro duo as a stocking stuffer, it's fantastic and half the price

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
@blasting not really set on buying one, I just keep seeing them mentioned and was curious about them

Mine has flames on it, faster yet, at least for any redneck -
Everyone knows, blue is best!
-
Buy straight from them.
I almost bought one a few dollars cheaper on Amazon but bought from thermaworks.
Mine flakes out after a year a few a few weeks ago. I emailed them and they immediately found my order by SN and told me to send it in under warranty.
And @coomdaddy is confused. Don't get a blue one. Much like a UK fan you will only be able to find the blue mist between November and March. Too much risk with all that fall football BBQ."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

Well, I'd say it would be the most universally recommended accessory, and highly recommend it. I am a big Thermoworks fan. Wait for a sale would be my advise - they seem to go on sale about every 6 weeks.Phoenix -
There is a big sale today. They extended the one they had going for one more day.
-
I have both a thermapen and a javelin..both are great!
-
Get one today while they are on sale!
Red is actually the fastest, just like cooking a steak rare gets done first, as for the others.
Blue - just like holding your breath it takes a while to turn blue.
Green - just like mold it takes a while to get there.
Pink - medium rare, rare is done first.
Flames - it was dropped in the fire and doesn't work anymore.
Purple - who really wants a purple thermometer?

You forgot... be sure to get the glow-in-the-dark condom for your thermapen. Because I mean really who doesn't like a glow-in-the-dark condom. And once the condom is glowing you'll wanna treat it with some leather S&M. Agree Red is fastest.

Ok they have the thermapen on sale on the website through today for like $89 or I can get the Javelin for $25. Is the thermoworks worth that extra money? Or just go with the Javelin?
-
I can't speak to the javelin. But I own two Thermapens and I love them. Have also given them as gifts to family that enjoys cooking and they have all come back with positive reviews.

Made in UK, so must be good! Deals on discontinued colours of the Thermapen 3 at the moment here, £36 plus shipping.
-
I had a thermapen and when it died I got a Thermopop for $20. For how much I cook at once the thermapen wasn't worth the extra money in my opinion.
The new thermo pop is a second or two faster then the original and it's only $29 for 3 for 4 second read.
