Christmas Meal Derailed

Oh no. I sit here after a trip to the Emergency Room getting ready to order a take out meal for tomorrow. For those of you who are unaware, a mandolin is a very, very, very sharp instrument. So sharp that you don't really feel it when the tips of your fingers go through it 
Food saver is busy packaging up what was to be the meal of meals. Oh well....

Feel your pain. Several years ago I had to go to the hospital Christmas morning to get a piece of steel removed from my eye. After several hours and a patch over one eye I got home to start dinner and used a new Mac knife to take some butter off and cut the back of my wrist for twenty stitches.

I sometimes use a 1/4 potato when slicing stuff. I can push down and get everything sliced. Worst case I have to pick a slice of potatoe out of the pile.bohemian said:

That sucks. Hope your finger(s) got stitched up and you're recovering with a beverage now.
I don't like the way the guard slides on mine, so I bought some cut resistant gloves. My thumb is most likely to get sliced when I use the mandolin, so I typically wrap my right thumb in a few turns of cloth medical tape. Has kept said digit intact so far.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
