Beef Tenderloin Cooking Question/Help

Hey y'all, so the in-laws have requested I egg the beef tenderloin for Christmas. However, I have a slight predicament. I will be home, with the egg on Friday, but will be at my parents all day Saturday for Christmas Eve without getting back to the egg before Christmas Day.
Any suggestions or thoughts as to how to cook it Friday and serve it Sunday while maximizing flavor and juiciness? My original thought was to reverse sear the majority of the way on the egg Friday, then finish it off hot and fast on the FIL's gas grill Sunday morning?
Your suggestions are appreciated!

That's a tough one. The way I see it you have 3 reasonable options.
1) Cook it on the gas grill to the desired temp. If you want a charcoal/wood flavor to it, there are wood/smoking boxes you can buy for a gas grill and put wood chips in.
2) Buy your parents a Weber for Christmas. This is what I did. And I got my in-laws a 14" Smokey Joe for $29 about 8 years ago and I still use it every summer when I visit.
3) You can do some version of what you are suggesting and get some charcoal/wood flavor on it at your house and then finish it on the gas grill 2 days later. If I were going to do that I would just sear it on the egg and refrigerate it - making sure the internal temp did not get anywhere close to the final desired temp. Then I would finish it slow on the gas grill to get the internal temp exactly where I want it all the way through the beef.
But that's just me. Hopefully others will be along to comment.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

Cook it on the gas grill. A beef tenderloin is all about the tender juicy inside with a nice crust on the outside. A gas grill will work fine for this cook. Just make sure to take your favorite rub and instant read thermometer with you.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
The APL beef tenderloin recipe will work just fine on a gas grill."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@Foghorn @jtcBoynton @JohnInCarolina thanks for the suggestions, guys. Really helps a lot. Looks like I'll go with grilling it the morning of on the gas grill using the APL recipe.LBGE, 28" Blackstone

Happy to help.
jtcBoynton, you probably ought to re-evaluate your life as hanging out and getting mentioned with 2 knuckle-draggers from Duke (is that redundant?) is probably not in your best interest.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

A wise choice. You will not be disappointed. Then you'll repeat it someday on the Egg and your mind will be blown.CodyA88 said:@Foghorn @jtcBoynton @JohnInCarolina thanks for the suggestions, guys. John, I'll be doing one on the egg from APL based on a few comments from others that referred back to you and how good it was. If it turns out half as good as I've read I'll be thrilled.

Definitely disappointed this round won't be on the egg, but looking forward to seeing how much better the next round will be from the egg.LBGE, 28" Blackstone
