Divorce Update (For those interested)

Hello all!

I know everyone may not be interested & some get their panties in a wad about posting divorce stuff on a BGE forum, but for those that were some really awesome people in offering up advice, support, etc...I figured I would update on my situation:

I lived with the ex since this happened (a little before Labor Day) & tried to find a roommate to move in so I could keep the house. That didn't workout too well & I decided around Thanksgiving to give up & we'd put the house up for sale. Well, about 2 weeks ago a guy from our company was in town looking for houses to rent since he was moving down here for good. He ended up coming to look at our house & decided him & his wife wanted to rent it out. We weren't planning to rent, but it was kind of a perfect scenario to get the hell out of the house & move on with my life. He wanted to move in 12/15 so I busted my butt to find a place. I ended up finding a place and moving 12/8. That same day I found out that our divorce was final, and the next day I found out that I got a promotion. Needless to say it was a good week. Oh yeah...good thing about my new apartment is that I've got an attached garage & I've got the egg in there. I rolled it out on Sunday for some pork tenderloin & country style ribs (attaching a pic).

Anyway, I appreciate all the support & advice from everyone. I can honestly say that I am so much happier without her and it's only going to get better from here. As you all know that were following my story, I was pretty down in the dumps when this stuff first came about. I feel like a different person now and look forward to a stellar 2017. I booked a trip to Italy in May with a college friend (female, just a friend?), got a wedding in Sonoma in July, & signed up to run the Chicago Marathon in October (yikes). All that sent messages/emails/offered support, you guys are incredible people and I thank you for helping me push through the storm. Hope everyone has a great Christmas & New Year!

Been there, done that, I call it my previous life.  Life is great for me, remarried, two wonderful children and have not looked back.  I hope everything works out great for you.  Watch out for the rebound affect.  I would suggest to stay low on the dating and just hang with friends for a good long while.  :)

Great News!  Glad all the pieces fell together for you - that happens, and I am glad when it happens to people in situations like this.

Where you going in Italy? We went there bit ago and our itinerary was planned all around advise from a friend who has been there over 30 times.  Depending on where you are headed, I can pass that onto you and you can decide what you do/do not want to do. Some of it is very detailed (as in park in this parking lot, not that one; and "at the top of the hill there will be an old man sitting under a sign that says 'Slow down you are on vacation'." Well sure enough he was there when we got there.....

Trip to Italy.... you will be friends with benefits is my bet!

  • Thanks all! @sea2ski We are flying into Rome, then heading south to the Amalfi Coast. Thinking we'll stay in Positano and hit Isle of Capri, Ravello, Pompeii, etc. Will probably end last 2-3 nights in Rome or Florence checking one of those out.

Good luck man!  Never been divorced, but was separated for 8 months one time.  I still remember the lifting of the stress on the day I moved out.  Trying to co-habitate in the midst of that was more miserable than anything I've done.  Wishing you all the best for a happy/prosperous new year.

@BrevardAUEgger I can help you out in Rome and Florence. When we were there we were in Rome and various places North of there (Florence, Venice, Asisi, San Giaminiano and a few other small towns.)

If you want to learn how to make a couple Italian dishes with a Chef at her place In Florence, I can get you her contact information. Want to make an impression?  We had her prepare us a private meal when we had her in our villa when in Tuscany. We came "home" to a great meal after being out for the day. Then a few days later we went to Florence and we caught up with her at her place. It was a really neat experience to make tiramisu in Florence the way they make it. Out of this world!!!!   If you are a wine drinker, her friend (business partner??) stopped by and provided wine for the day as well.  Reasonably priced in my opinion as well. Probably not as much as you think.

Happy to help - just let me know if you are interested.

Divorced after being married for 21 years. Met my current wife on Match and got married 2 years after my divorce. Bought a new home, XL and Digi q. 2 years later my wife buys me a CyberQ for my Birthday. Last May she took me on a surprise trip to Austin for my 60th.

Am I happy? You bet I am.

You will be too. It only gets better.

Perhaps two of the days of my life; the day I got married and the day she died. The former may sound like I am evil. Never wished her harm but she was making my life miserable. When the coroner called it was a mixed feeling. Sad to hear she passed but grateful that I could finally move on not worry what she was up to.
