Deciding on a second egg

I have a LBGE and I'm in the process of deciding on which size egg I should purchase for an additional egg in the coming months. Like a lot of you, I have quickly went further down the rabbit hole and now want to cook everything on the egg. I have a family of 3 and we do not entertain for more then 8-10 people usually, so i feel that the LBGE will handle the need for protein 99% of the time.
I'm interested in a second egg for cooking at different temps, sides, and appetizers and have considered the Minimax, Small, or Medium. Does anyone have experience with similar set-ups? I was pretty set on a Minimax until i read some pretty bad review on temp regulation and difficulty with the cooking surface being so close to the coals. Now I'm back to square one.

Depending on your investment into accessories, two eggs the same size lets you share things..... I think the LBGE is the most popular, nothing wrong with having two of them.
(in my case I bought the MBGE first and for the two of us the Medium sees much of the day to day cooks. For a larger kamado, I went with a Primo 300, due to price, availability and the option of two zone cooking - lets me cook for larger crowds and seemed like a good fit)Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
I've only had the large, medium, and small.
The small I purchased and sold within a month. I really don't like being cramped. The medium is a great size, and the smallest size I'd go with for myself. If I'm tailgating or camping, I'll bring a smaller weber kettle rather than risk delicate ceramics.
I think my views may be different than most, but thought I'd put it out there for you. A lot of great cooks here like the smaller eggs, they are just not for me.

I've bought Large, Medium, Small, Mini. Sold the small because the medium outshines it and the mini handles the small jobs better. If you want a small egg to do little things regularly, I like the mini, if you are looking to expand egging space, get a medium or another large.

I purchased a minimax at an eggfest earlier this year for a pretty good price. However, i seem to use the large much more. I guess it's just a personal preference. If i had to do it all over again...i honestly think i would have left there with another large.

I have 2 large eggs & have no regrets. Like stated above, you can share accessories between the 2. -
I have large and small. I love the small, which gets the little jobs, sides and appetizer work. I personally have no regrets with the small. It's a beast for its size. No temp issues. Maybe I got lucky and got a good small egg...
For our family of 4, the small can handle it all, just gotta be a little creative with planning the cook because of limited grill size and people's hunger cravings...Large BGE, Adjustable Rig, Small BGE, 2 BBQ Guru's, 18" WSM, Rockwood, Stage 3 Roush Mustang and a hot wife...

I just added the minimax, and love it. I chose it for high heat searing and wokking . .also nice for quick weeknight cooking.Wisconsin, lbge, MM, kab, pig tail flippers, bear claws, and more rubs than I will admit to.

So my choice for a second kamado was a KJ Classic. I now have the divide and conquer system in my LBGE too and the KJ thermometer. Bought the joetissere, half moon heat deflectors for my BGE too.VA Beach

I also have a large and a mini. The mini gets used during the week for the quick meals for my wife and I and the large gets put to work on the weekends for the "serious" cooks.
The mini gets up to temp fast and is easy on the lump! -

I have a large and a small. Love both. I have taken the small with me on several trips. I'm now thinking of selling the small and getting the MM because it's easier to carry around.

I have a Large and a MiniMax along with a XL that I haven't taken out of the box. I like my max. If I get home in time I'll start it up as soon as I get home and it's ready to go by the time I'm out of the shower. I'll do some wings or jalapeño poppers on it and it's great. I also use it to seer after a sous vide. I let a neighbor borrow it to take out of town and he did a butt on it and he loved it. I've never had a small or medium but I love the minimax.

I have a large, small, and a mini max. The MM probably gets used the most since it is usually just the wife and myself. It is mostly used for cooking burgers, steaks, chops, etc. I also wok on it frequently. It is perfect for that with a Woo since the coals are right under the wok and makes it really hot. I don't usually use it for low and slow but it is capable and I have on occasion. The large gets used a close 2nd behind the MM. I do most of my low and slow on it and use it when we have company. The small seldom gets used anymore. It is better at low and slow than the MM because of the increased distance between the lump and the grate. However, that also makes it less desirable to me for a hot and fast cook which is what I love the MM for. If I had to part with one, it would be the small. I have considered selling the small and buying another large or an x-large.

You will be happy wherever you land as the second option gives you so much flexibility. Make a choice, don't look back and enjoy. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I love my large and small combo. I probably use my small more now then I do my large. The only thing I would suggest is you might want to wait until there is an eggfest near you and see which one is the best deal for you.Large and Small BGECentral, IL

Thanks for the input. It sounds like the MM is a pretty versatile little guy and should be more then capable for what i want to do ( different temps, sides, steaks). And I didn't mention that although the MM is rather heavy, it is portable. We do carry it with us sometimes when we travel.
