Pampered chef pizza stone

Are these any good? Girl at work is trying to sell stuff from this catalog for her son's fund raiser .

they aren't expensive but I don't want to spend money and not be happy. They are only rated to 450 degrees

Not for use on the egg. Fine for indoor use if you wish. They will hatter on the egg.

Agreed. Not good for high heat. I used mine for awhile but it eventually cracked. It broke into 5+ pieces. I've even have heard that they can explode. Save the money and use it towards a thicker pizza stone

I picked one up at a garage sale and it stays in the oven. I wouldn't pay full price for one though.

Had one for years of problem free use in the oven. Second time in the egg, and it came out in three pieces.  I cook my pizza at 550'ish.

Buy only for your oven as stated above....

  • As you see, it's not for pizza on the egg. I use mine in oven for reheating pizza, crescent rolls, or even for baking cookies. It's a good product, just not for the Egg.
Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Had PC stone for years, One cook on the EGG and it was toast
  • do not even attempt it.  My Bro-in-law used one when he got his KJ and it exploded while lifting it out, a big chunk of ceramic landed on his arm and burned him pretty badly.

  • They do have new grilling stones that are rated to 750 degrees.  Brand new on the line.  My SHMBO just ordered me one.  I will let you know how it is when I use it. This is different from the regular pizza stone they have had for years.

One of the nurses I work with has a PC stone bar pan, and vintage Japanese spatula.  She has used it so much, it is awesome.  Nonstick, like CI.

I found one of their stone bundt pans for dirt cheap that was brand new.  Love my Hartstone pottery loaf and muffin pans.  Like CI, they get better with time.

If you're looking to buy a couple things from PC, their scrapers are legendary.  Also, there is an inexpensive mix n chop tool that makes breaking up ground beef, deer, sausage, much easier than using a wooden spoon.

PC's grilling accessories are gimmicky IMO, and I'm a gadget junkie.

My first attempt at pizza - before I got a pizza stone - tried to use an older Pampered Chef stone.  Before I even got the pie on it, it shattered to bits - and it wasn't even 450 yet.

If you have a World Market in your area, check out their pizza stone. I have made dozens of pizzas with it, 500F +, not the first issue.

Dang, that Rockcrok stuff is pricey.  But it's good up to 752.

Hard to beat and break this Lodge for $34. Doubles as a griddle.

I have yet to buy a piece of steel that will fit my large, but it sure bakes a fine pizza in my oven!! Found a metal dealer who sells cutoffs, mild A36 steel, $1 per pound, any thickness. I bought 1/4". Basically, it's the Baking Steel for $12 instead of $80. I haven't used my BGE stone (or my BGE for that matter) for pizza since I first tried the steel in my oven.

The steel will never crack or break. Don't know if it will warp or not, but I doubt it. I know it'll handle temps far higher than my egg or oven will ever reach. Makes a good flat top too, though certainly not as convenient as a Blackstone. The piece of scrap I bought happens to fit my weber kettle perfectly.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I put mine in the egg once before reading about their failures... Now its black and only gets used inside.

Usually we get Papa Murphys and I just put it in egg indirect on rack, works fine.  I have used my Lodge Cast Iron pizza pan as well in the egg it works great.

I've had good luck with a cheap stone from Kitchen Collection, it was a Hamilton Beach I think, good to 450ºF. First few firings at about 550ºF, after five or so cooks, increased the temps to over 700ºF. I put it on late and just leave it there, so far, no issues. I notice that it is about 12" and used in a MBGE, if the stone overhangs the setter or deflector, you can have trouble.
