Going for Gold, for my BIL

bgebrent Posts: 19,636
As some of you know my BIL has had a medical challenge that he's handled very well. As a result he'd lost his appetite for a while due to the radiation treatments. Once his taste and appetite were returning I believed a SRF Gold brisket would help. It did.

Cheesy potatoes and and corn on the egg made for good sides.

We feasted and celebrated the good health we hope for him. Thanks for listening.

Great to hear he is getting back on track after the challenges presented him. That gold looks off the chart.

Great work my man. I hope the worst for your BIL is superior than the very best of his past.

Thank you brother. A good dose of Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper on both sides. Nothing else. Needed nothing else.

Nice cook. And I hope things go okay. Good occasion to treat somebody to some nice meat.

Curious if you have had the black grade? I cooked one today and it was outstanding. Hard to justify me spending that much on brisket though again unless it's for a special occasion like what you did.
perhaps I should spend the extra on my next one and try the gold?

Honestly, I agree with your thinking and I only went Gold because of the occasion. I've not done SRF black but believe you should try it first. Having said that, the point on the gold ate like a butter injected prime rib. So to each his taste.

Best wishes to your BIL for beating his latest challenge.  Positive spirit will take you a long way in whatever is ahead.  And again, emerge victorious.
About that cook-great looking brisket and result.  I have never ventured into Gold country (SWMBO does not push back with the Black... I recognize right answer sometimes) but I will have to some time.  The marbling on that is off the charts.  Great gesture that I am sure was appreciated well beyond any words that were spoken.

One heck of a cook and positive vibes for your brother in law! Wish him the best and hopefully a healthy recovery
  • Good cook. Start watching his eating habits  I had my egg for about six months and was smoking a ton of things and my dad went through radiation and the next thing he didn't have a taste for smoke or red meat for about 6 months. Everything was veggies, carbs and fish/seafood.

Chemo screwed it up worse the first time but it's crazy when your body goes through that much stress the things it will do to itself.

Glad ad to hear he is doing better. Never a fun season of life.

@bhedges1987 I haven't cooked both, but I've eaten both so could be an Indian/arrow thing. I've cooked black. The gold that @thatgrimguy had at butt blast was the best brisket I've ever eaten. Note: I've lived in Georgia all my life, not exactly known for brisket.
