A little reading for vacation...

Gonna start with Franklin Barbecue. Already read Hot Coals, Smoke It Like a Pro, and Slow Fire.

Anybody else have a favorite bbq book? I like the ones that are heavier on technique, with fewer recipes (the recipes I can figure out, and usually end up adjusting anything I find to my own likes anyway) -- it's the "why" and "how" of bbq that I really like reading about...

If my book shelf did not bear a striking similarity, i'd say you have a problem....

I definitely have a problem. And it's getting worse.

Pre-Egg, I made quite a few trips to the local library in search of info. Steve Raichlen's books seemed pretty good, but my over-all fave was "Peace, Love and BBQ," by Mike Mills. My recollection was that it was not very heavy on technique, but great yarns and very good recipes. A few years later I read one by Chris Lilly, "Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book." Again from recollection, his descriptions of what was happening during a cook were clear and concise.
