Cedar plank scallops and shrimp

Options
Drove past the fish market and got inspired on a Wednesday. Had a leftover cedar plank I soaked for a couple hours. Seasoned scallops with olive oil, salt pepper and paprika. Shrimp were marinated in olive oil / lemon juice, salt, pepper and garlic.

Got egg up to 400-450 direct.....scallops went for 20 min and shrimp for about 5 or 6.

Grilled some garlic bread and roasted some corn and squash. Happy hump day!

Anyone try the scallops in the freezer section at Costco? Talk about being at the end of the supply line, here in Kentucky, there is not a lot to work with.
    Thank you for posting.

They were day boat dry scallops so no gross liquid goo coating!  I took the soaked cedar out of the water, heated it for a few min on one side and flipped and set scallops on top.  20 min at 400 direct.  They take on the flavor of the wood quite a bit so you can change the flavor profile by switching the type of plank.  Would probably be good added to some pasta too.

I think the biggest thing is having quality scallops.  These are $25 / lb but 8 large scallops was just over a half pound....well worth it.

I just never seem to be able to nail the right texture. I love scallops, but I either over cook them and they are too chewy, or under cook and they seem to be a touch gelatenous. I have no idea why I have not planked them, as I have tried every other way imaginable. Just didn't.
Thank tou for the data. Will apply to next cook.

Good looking seafood...I picked up some skewers at Crate & Barrel relatively inexpensive....about a foot long.

You can also use a frog mat to cook your shrimp on.
