BBQ Guru DigiQ II AC Power Adaptor Barrel Size?
jld
Posts: 63
I've lost the AC adaptor to my BBQ Guru DigiQ II. I see BBQ Guru sells them, but $30 shipped seems like a lot for a generic AC wall wart. I know they're 12V out, 2A, but can someone tell me what the DC plug's barrel size is so I can try to price one out for less?

Here's a picture of the specs on my Guru wall wart ...

The barrel mics out at 5.4mm

Thanks.
For those who come later, I have verified that it's 5.5mm outside diameter, with a 2.1mm center pin.

looks like you got your answer already, but isn't there another major consideration such as if the outside is negative or positive? I know when I bought an adapter for my Guru so I could power it with a battery jumper instead of AC I bought a universal head unit that had both positive and negative heads plus 4 different sizes.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

If you want to run it off of DC: https://amzn.com/B0058RLD9C
Or if you want to run it off of AC & DC (comes with above adapter): https://amzn.com/B006NTNGN0

Thanks. I assume the outside of the barrell is negative as that's becoming more and more standard, but if anyone has a volt meter and is willing to confirm, I would be most appreciative.

I've not seen it, but have read that the center pin is +
And is so marked......hava a look? -

Agreed; but, it outlines one of the biggest Standardization failures of the last 50 years, at least here in the US: the barrel size at the "small" end of a standard 9v adapter.hoosier_egger said:Holy 10 year old thread resurrection
I played in bar bands from '79 to '06 or so. The early analog delays I used on my instruments had the AC-DC converter built into the unit, but as digital started taking over, synthesizer and effects unit manufacturers adopted the "wall wart"; the reason was to streamline the UL-Listing wait time: if they used an already-approved "wall wart", and the box/rackmount/synthesizer ran on 9V DC, that cut months off the approval time from UL Laboratories.
When you're constantly plugging/unplugging your stuff in different bars each weekend, with dancers and drunks bouncing around, those little barrel plugs took a beating, and often needed replacing. I was handy with a soldering iron but trying to find a matching barrel size was almost impossible; I remember finding a set of forty-one different barrels at Radio Shack, and it still didn't have the particular size I needed (it ended up being cheaper to buy a whole new wall-wart from the OEM).
Partly in thanks to the EU, we seem to be finally standardizing on USB-A/USB-C format plugs for our small electronic toys, both for power and data transfer, so these damn wall-wart days will be eventually forgotten.
Well, I guess that's my nerdy, boring contribution for this week's "Eerily-quiet Friday night", albeit wrong thread.“Declare victory when you have retreated past the point where you started” - Don Tzu
