Why do I need a Rutland gasket as opposed to a BGE replacement?

The woven fiberglass is resistant to much higher temps and won't fail as easily.XL & MM BGE, 36" Blackstone - Newport News, VA

On a serious note, as brother johnny said above, the Rutland holds up to high heat considerably better than the factory gasket. You can run your BGE at extremely high temps without worry of the gasket failing.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Alas, the aramids (like Nomex) don't perform as well as the old-school glass fiber (Rutland) insofar as high heat. The reason they don't come stock on grills like the egg is the same reason you don't wear fiberglass clothes in a race, Nomex is the standard in fire proof clothing.
What does all this gibberish mean? I don't know.

xactly That's why we put rutland gaskets on our sheet. BGE corp is crippled with paranoid lawyers.SGH said:

That would be true, kind sir, however, bliss devoid of ignorance is extant.SGH said:

There are some other choices available other than a high heat BGE gasket. Lots of Nomex/Kevlar versions. Many of the Nomex gaskets are peel and stick and the quality has improved over the past few years.
LavaLock works well and so does the rather pricy High-Q. Rutlands are popular here, they are cheap and easy to install - BGE, or any other Kamado does not use them as OEM due to no food safe rating.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
Okay then. Rutland it is.
