  • Have heard good thinks. Forgot to mention Peche, fantastic food and one of the best whisky selections I have ever seen and isla, right next door. Great Tiki bar. There is a bar between then called ceder street. Really cool place with great cover bands.
All great spots in the warehouse district. These are at 4th and lavaca.

If you get in line early at Franklins you can also purchase a vacuumed sealed brisket to take back with you. They usually have 15-20 of those per day, so they go quickly to those at the front of the line. And if you tell them you are flying out that day, they'll pack everything for you and give you tips on getting it through the airport

If you like breakfast tacos - try Juan in a Million. For $4 you get a giant plate sized breakfast taco, chips and salsa. It's a dive for sure but it's damn tasty

Have a great time and bring your umbrella. Austin has gotten 70" of rain instead of our usual 25" during the last year.

Native Austinite here.  Good suggestions in this thread.  I would suggest Stiles Switch BBQ on North Lamar.  Really good bbq and they don't run out in my experience.

Nothing better than a late night at the Mag.

However as much as we can argue about great BBQ- we also get really defensive about Breakfast tacos so you need to seek out some winners there as well.

I am a fan of Torchys Chorizo and Egg but I wont complain at most places.  To me a good taco is like good BBQ it shouldnt need salsa to be good.  However my exception is the Diablo at Torchys its a must.  My other go to Taco as its convenient to my house is Rudys Chopped Taco with Egg (you have to go in line to get it).  Its chopped brisket with Rudys sauce.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

There is one ~2 miles from my house.  Be careful what you wish for.

Firmly committed to the Brushfire taco and their queso. Best queso in town.

Definitely Odd Duck for at least 2 non-BBQ meals.  Delicious and creative.

Freedmen's BBQ  for low-wait,  in-town, Texas ambiance, and yummy: Q, sides, and desserts.

    Dai Due:

    - Best pastrami sandwich ever
Pastrami Sandwich with Sauerkraut, Stryk Cheddar and Beet 1000 Island on Rye  $13

    - Surprisingly excellent for breakfast (served till 3:00pm).  Killer biscuits.

    - Very chill interior
We never make reservations for dinner and just sit at the bar

    - Certain seats give you a vantage point to view the butcher doing his / her thing
I picked up a relative at the airport and we stopped at Dai Due for lunch a while back. She could view the butcher, a beautiful but intense young woman that day. She called her the "fat slinger" and narrated her every move all during the meal.

  • Ha! Arriving early has its privileges. He's such a generous guy with his time. Last time I was there I had a group of clients from LA with me. He sat down at our table for 15 minutes and answered every question they had. Took lots of pics. He treated them like they were the only people in the place. Great guy. Glad you are getting the full experience.
