If there is a speed of light; and there is a speed of sound.....is there a speed of smell ?

I think as BBQ enthusiasts we should consider this question seriously.

    Roasted garlic for the win... BTW-wanna get the true speed of smell...rip one in a spa and then catch it when the bubble breaks the surface.  The concentrated essence is a thing to experience...  TMI right here  ;)

    Since smell occurs when odorant molecules bind with olfactory receptors it depends on several factors, including but not limited to, the speed of air currents, the air temp, and how volatile the odorant molecules are.

    So it depends.

    Great question, mystery of the universe kinda thing. I know that if I take the plastic wrap off a cucumber, the dog does not even twitch, take the same plastic wrap off a piece of cheese and if you turn around fast you will fall over her....

    It depends on how often you feed said neighbor. Once they figure out what comes off the smoking, green object, the response will be fast.
