Decided to hit up IA's first Mellow Mushroom in Coralville after some fun at the VA hospital.
As a pizza snob, I must confess, the red skin potato was a pretty damn tasty chain pie.  It could even pass as a breakfast/brunch pie.  And to top it off, Fat Tire pints were 3 bucks

Now this is still a distant second to Fong's Crab Rangoon pie.....but MM is a bright, funky, cool place that puts out a respectable product.  Glad they have finally spread to IA.

MM is a cool joint w/ a great staff locally. When I was doing the hot side I commissioned a few of their pizza ovens. I'll also add their kitchen's were always clean. That says a lot about an establishment. They make a mean pie.

They are definitely engaged. The owner came up to our table to ask about things, and we chatted for a good 15 min about QC style pie and MM.  Was really impressed with our lunch experience.  We will be back for sure.

@NPHuskerFL   that is a clean kitchen.

That damn gordon ramsey has me thinking all restaurants are a toxic cesspool beyond the swinging doors.

We've had one in Durham forever.  Our favorite is a pesto pizza with chicken, red onions, and tomatoes.

It was hard to pick.  They have some nice topping combos on the menu.  The IA beer cheese breakfast pie looked solid too.

We love the shroom.  I am pretty sure the esperanza dressing has crack in it. Here in GA every Sunday Sweetwater is $2.22 a pint.

I have ordered a pie to go "half baked" and finished it on the egg.  It was really good.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Sure wish we could get one in MN. I used to frequent MM when the SE was in my sales territory. That looks very tasty @Focker.

Daughter manages one in Chatanooga.  Good organization trying to offer quality product.  I find their food to be good.  Pizza is pretty good, not what you guys can turn out.

Think what I like about Boone is the surroundings really. There's other restaurants I'd go to first.  MM being a great place for lunch.

None here in IL yet, so looks like I'll pass. Got a different question though for you, Brandon. You brought up the term QC (Quad City for you folks elsewhere) pizza. What sets a QC pizza apart? BTW there is a family owned pizza parlor that offers a QC pizza here but I have yet to hear anything good or bad about the place and I think they are only open 2 days a week...not a bustling business venture!

MM is really good pizza but fairly expensive. Over $20 a pizza for anything good. Haven't been in awhile but one of the better pizza places around last time I was there.

Thanks! Sounds like a pizza with a regional charm or an acquired taste maybe. I don't think it has caught on here in spite of just being 90 miles from the QC. Maybe some Saturday lunch I will try it for kicks and giggles for a small pie.  I highly doubt Pat will like it due to her aversion to most everything described there.

Have one here in Louisville, 6 blocks from my house. Go there a lot, Never had a bad or even mediocre experience yet. Last time there, they had Sequoia Grove Cab, BY THE GLASS! Wine bill: $160.00, food including Za: $32.40.
    Just sayin'. Cool joint.

In all seriousness, I will be ripping this style of bechamel off.  Bacon, taters, ernyin, calabrians, maybe some whole or even scrambled eggs.  Damn skippy.

Ron, it isn't bad.  Sausage and mushroom Harris.  Knife and fork style pizza, heavily topped.  Good eats.

We did not mean for that to happen. Just a good cab and good Za with friends. I will admit, wine bills frequently surpass the food bill, though.
