Eating steak out

I wouldn't consider long horns,Outback, Ruth Chris or mortons a great steak house or any other large chain restaurant for that matter. Honeestly a steak at CUT, Spagoes, Mastros or any other "high end" I have not been able to achieve on the egg for that matter, I guess I just can't cookHermosa Beach CA

Ive had similar experiences. Earlier this year i went to a nationally known higher end steak place, i won't say the name but it rhymes with norton's. I had a NY strip that was high quality but way overcooked for medium rare. I don't complain at restaurants so i left and have not returned. Later that month i bough THREE PRIME NY strips at costco for less $ than the one i had at the steak joint. Reverse seared and then cast iron grated for nice grillmarks yielded much better results off the minimax. And i was a rockstar to the guests i had over for those.henapple said:I realize every meal at a restaurant is different but today was bad. Sher-bear and I received a $50 gc for Longhorns so I ordered prime rib. They brought me a strip steak. It had zero taste. The Mgr started to argue that it was prime rib. They finally brought me a piece of pr, 12 Oz that was 8 Oz of fat... Still no real taste. My baked potato was better.
I hate to be one of "those" so I just ate it and left. Disappointed to say the least.
I remember when i bought my first BGE the guy at the bbq store said i would stop goimg to restaurants after using the BGE. Man was he right. I havent stopped entirely going to restaurants but go a LOT less than i did before using the Big Green Egg. -
I haven't ordered a steak in a restaurant for 16 years. Wife kept trying for a few years but complained every time.

You are 100% correct. It's called Meridy's, and is in Russell Kansas. About 1 block off I-70, so it easy to find. The only place around with a full parking lot in the evenings!

One of the first places I ever got the meat sweats. I would crush a big ribeye at like 15 after a long day of pheasant hunting. Time to make a trip again.

I almost refuse to eat steak at a restaurant unless it's provided during a business dinner... There's been 2x I've been pleasantly surprised... More often than not I'm disappointed

In fact, we don't even go out to eat very often these days. Between the eggs and my new Blackstone, we just can't find a reason to go out.
