  • Nothing like 2 trashy trailer parks and a few margaritas to cure the "beef malaise".
There is really no better way. You actually "out-austin-ed" me today. Strong finish.

    According to latest Texas Monthly...

the top taco in Austin is...

    but Torchy's was also mentioned...

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the brushfire, but when I do get the trailer park, it's always trashy.

  • Any of you ever tried Brown's BBQ?  It's a trailer on South Lamar, near Mary Street, by Austin's Pizza.  Their brisket is outstanding.  Just throwing out another option for those in the area.  Brown's makes it on many "best of" lists.

VI and I had lunch (first time for both of us here) at Torchy's a couple of weeks ago. So I drug Linda there last week. That Green Chili Taco is worth the 100 mile round trip for lunch. Outstanding.
Guys we have to hit Valentina's for a Sat/Sun group lunch.

Q is not a bitter, old Focker.  I deal with them on  a regular basis.

He's helpful, smart, can think for himself, not a sheeple.  I too, am baffled at the following, for the worst cut of meat one could waste their hard earned $ and time on.  And for the record, you will never see me standing in line for hours.......for brisket.  Might be a little tough to swallow @cazzy, but sometimes the truth hurts brother.

To each their own. It's fine if you don't like BBQ, since it's about the journey, not just the destination. The goal is to take the worst cut of meat and transform it into some thing as tender or more tender than "traditional meats". I know flyover country isn't know for slow-smoking meats, but damn, the pork is good there.

    @Eggcelsior,
All good, not my final destination.  And I've smoked many a brisket through the years.

Has this thread evolved to a "who's dixk is bigger deal?"  Reading thru an early PM haze...Happy Thanksgiving regardless of who's is...  ;)

Brother Cap, I had something that I was going to add here but then thought the better of it. As such I will quietly pass on by my friend

What's the deal with these places giving a plain slice of toast?

Rather have a toasted slice of sourdough.

In Texas, it is about the meat and the plain white bread is just an easy way to deliver meat with taking away the spot light.  There is nothing better than slices of point on a piece of white bread.  It's related to the meat market style barbecue in Texas....sliced white bread with hot guts sausage.

@cazzy is it at least good white bread?

Also not toasted, at least I've never seen BBQ served with toast.

what is 'good' white bread?  Think thin, cheap, white sandwhich bread.

    Mrs. Barids plain white bread.

Micklethwait BBQ makes homemade white bread that he slices thick.  If you ever make it to Austin, stop by there.  He also makes his own buns.

@Legume - I'm thinking Bunny Bread qualifies for good white bread.  But I'm not a bread connoisseur.  ;)

At Valentina's they gave us Martins Potato Bread, which is the best bread ever.

Ok fair enough,  I have always wondered why, as long as it isn't some cheap $1 loaf bread that makes sense.

It's generally very basic doughy crappy white bread. Dunno why but it's awesome on our style of bbq. I don't eat it on anything else-ever. I liked the potato bread Dylan mentioned earlier but that is not standard issue down here.

I've seen some places that get Mrs. Bairds or whatever cheap white bread with slices individually wrapped - strangest thing I've seen.  You don't want any waste when the whole loaf is $1.05

  • Holy crap- just had that taco. Might be the best I've ever had. I immediately ordered another one as soon as I finished the first. Highly recommended.
