I love seeing pics and hearing of others adventures.  Although it ignites the wanderlust in my soul and makes me restless.

    Thanks for posting!!

Did get this guy on a branch outside our hotel.  Later learned that it is poisonous. It feeds on the nector of a plant that has arsenic, and it stores it in their system. When it opens its wings, the color pattern is red and yellow, but I missed that shot.

Just about everything in Australia seems to be poisonous or able to kill you; have you seen any 14" spiders yet?
Mucho Thanks for the pics and posts, really an adventure!

@Botch no big spiders yet thank goodness. I did see a huge web that is really a 3D web that can get 15 feet tall and 15 feet wide and can house 100's of spiders. Think of it as an apartment for them all.

Everything down here is big, with the exception of spoons, glasses of water at tables when eating and egos. Everyone is super nice, helpful and laid back.  I am loving every minute of this trip!

Hopefully you've tried the Vegemite.  Great thread.  I enjoyed the month I spent in Victoria, unfortunately it was work.

I have been looking for vegemite, but have not seen it yet. As soon as I do, I am going to get "a bit of a taste"

@slovelad  no problem.  As I have said before, I like it when others do this, so I thought I would as well.  I figure if people do not want to see, they to not have to follow. Right?

    @gatraveller
My wife who did all the planning for this trip, has a folder with all the trip information in it. On the cover, it reads: "We travel not to escape life, but for life to not escape us". It is so true.  I feel like you get much more out of the world and life if you get out there and see it and live in it, even if it is a short trip for a long weekend.

I eat Marmite daily.  Little less salty but pretty much the same thing.  "Love it or hate it" is their slogan.  I love it, everyone else I know hates it.

Well, we had the easiest transfer I have had in a long time.  From Brisbane, we got on another flight, but first I needed a bite.
Lamb burger, lettuce, tomato chutney, whole egg mayo, New York style cheese, and hickory BBQ sauce:

    The flight:

Good of thing I had the burger.  Air NZ is an incredible airline with a very updated fleet of planes.  The food...  well, the beef something I had was not so good. As you can see, the roll was the best part.

Finally at the hotel and settled in.

We are currently sitting in the shadow of the Auckland sky tower having a glass of a New Zealand Shiraz, and she got a glass of white

And dinner just just came too!  New Zealand grass fed beef ribeye steak, with duck fat potatoes and side vegetable of the day.

    What a great day!

    Had a fairly simple breakfast.

I will pass on all future vegemite and marmite.  You can see in the picture above I had a bite of each.  That was enough.

We we have since been touring this morning the New Zealand countryside. In a word - beautiful.

Lunch time now.  Had the sides first - had to wait for the beef.

But it the wait was worth it.  Done perfectly.

@BizGreenEgg  we are going to both islands.  I had to have more of the north island beef before we move on.

I've never wanted to visit Aussie-land because of the spiders, but it's on my bucket list to visit, possibly emigrate, to New Zealand.  Thanks for the pics and posts there!

Just got back from a tour. From what they said, NZ can be tough to get into. Australia however is not.  But, once an Aussie, you can then easily move to NZ.

As as for a few other things I have learned:

There are few native flowering plants because there were no bees.  All plants were pollinated by birds.

People are typically buried on a hill - the higher On it you are buried, the more important you are.

Very very few flowers are imported, too far from producers and there isn't enough demand to grow them locally.

North island is known for beef production. The South Island is known for sheep.

No handguns, and police do not carry them.  They welcome hunters to get rid of pigs.

Most energy production is from geothermal steam.

    • Friday night dinner:   Bucket list item 2 checked off: eat New Zealand lamb in New Zealand!!

SILERE Alpine Origin Merino Lamb fillet & shoulder Wellington, marinated Artichokes, semi dried Tomatoes, Olive powder & Rosemary jus paired with  a Neudorf “Tom’s Block” Pinot Noir

I will say that it was indeed the best lamb I ever had. Although each piece was 1.5 inches thick, I only used a knife to get a "clean cut" with the pastry wrapping. It was just bloody delicious. I could have easily ate 3 more pieces.
