  • +1e6 for NO.  Heck if you can come in October, you might make it to the next camp!

Also, it's not a good idea to have a car in NO.  @nola can tell you more about the wisdom of parking vehicles in the vicinity of drunks.  Plus, you will have too much fun  - in NO you don't want to drive, you want to be driven!

Do not park next to brisket camp!!  My truck door is caved in.  Last think I heard before the crunch was "I'm going to the bar!!".

New Orleans for food/drink/party. Savannah for real southern charm by the water. Charleston for fancier (more expensive) southern charm by the water. NYC for adventure IMO. I will say that Asheville, NC is hard to beat this time of year. Beautiful smokey mountains, great weather, fall colors, great hiking/mtn. biking and it's a real foody town too. You'll need a car and it's probably expensive to fly into Asheville, but worth it if you've never been. Just depends on what you are looking for.

Like some of the others have said Washington DC is an awesome city with a small town feel.

As a South Carolinian, I am a big fan of Chucktown......but not so much in the colder months. If not interested in going somewhere warm, consider Asheville North Carolina. Great mountaiin small city with an abundance of micro breweries and excellent reasturants. Love the North Carolina Mountains.

If you have enough points for Northern California, do Sacramento. 1 hour from Napa, 1 hour to San Francisco, 3 hours to Lake Tahoe, the California coastal hwy, Yosemite, all offer great food and drink
if you can't swing that trip, Charleston and NOLA ARE GREAT!!!! We also loved Boston. Lobster Rolls.
have fun, if I can help let me know.

Charleston is Ok, but Savannah is better. Luckily they are very close so you can do both! Do Charleston first because you will never want to leave Savannah.

New Orleans is an amazing time. You should time the trip to coincide with next year's Brisket Camp to truly have a culinary adventure.
Savannah is a dump compared to Charleston. River vs Bay/Oceanfront, plus Savannah smells like a paper mill. I don't mind pluffmud when the tide is out, but I prefer the air to not smell like sulphuric farts when I'm out and about.

I thought Charleston was boring. Savannah is beautiful. The oaks, the homes. Charleston was just another city. But I live on the water so seeing that was nothing special.  I obviously need to visit Charleston with someone who knows it.

I have been back to Savannah two more times and loved it everytime. Never smelled the paper mill.

I guess you didn't go south of Broad and walk along the battery. Charleston has the most beautiful antebellum homes in the south, let alone some of the most beautiful homes in the entire country. Take 700 to Kiawah and see Oaks with Spanish moss that takes your breath away. Nicest beaches on the East coast.  Plus, the history of the city. Sumter, Moultrie, the Yorktown exhibit. Get some  sweetgrass baskets off of 17, see other aspects of Gullah culture and the best BBQ outside of eastern NC.

boston can be one cold place in february, the wind off the harbor can be horrible in the winter, bone numbing even for those that like the cold. pick april when its warmer atleast.

I guess because we've been right across Canada before. Being near an ocean would be a big change of pace. I think its down to Boston, NYC, or New Orleans.  We both haven't been to any of these except for me visiting NYC, but I'm sure I didn't see 10% of it. Looks like I can do both Boston and NYC with the points I have, or just New Orleans

How about just give me the points and I will figure out how to use them myself? =)

Lol, I have tried transferring in the past and I think it was 20 cents/point. I need 10,500 to get to New Orleans. This is just another reason to burn these up and be done with this stupid card

    @poster   Your criteria:
    • US city
    • East of the Mississippi River
    • like food/drink
    • wife likes to shop
    • prefer city where car is not needed
I would suggest checking out the following as possible destinations:
    • New Orleans
    • Charleston
    • Washington DC
    • Philadelphia (Center City)
    • Boston
The suggestions are in geographic order, not my preference. I left off Chicago because you said you have been there several times already. I left off NYC for the same reason.  I think all meet your criteria. They do differ in other activities to fill in between all the eating, drinking, and shopping.
