@Lit , How exactly do you use that? I have one and am curious if you just HD it over the coals and move it around to create hot spots or do you sit it somehow pointing into the open lower vent. Thanks!Lit said:The Coleman battery powered mattress pump is like $15 and is small and pushes a lot of air. I rely on the 20% oxygen concentration in the atmosphere.

Just point it at wherever you lit the lump. I only use it when I'm in a hurry but it gets the coals going much faster. If you have a stool or something it works good if you point it through the bottom vent as well.Tier1Terrier said:

Yet another thing we agree on. I'm getting worried.nolaegghead said:I rely on the 20% oxygen concentration in the atmosphere.Flint, Michigan -
I also use a Coleman pump[. The one I have is a Rechargeable pump. Always has power unless you run it totally dead. It's great for camping too.

I will take a look at your FiAir, but I am not joking, I used it last night. I see a big issue using it inside, but I have a concrete patio and when the sparks fly up a little no big deal. I have looked at the BBQ Dragon and am thinking of that, because it has a clamp and I don't have to hold it. I would also think if you have a pit controller you could use the blower on it at well. I just figured I could use it for more then just blowing grass and leaves off the driveway.FiAirChief said:
How well I know! :-)Ladeback69 said:I use this. Then I blow the leaves and ash off the patio.
I really had tried most everything before deciding to develop FiAir.
After hyperventilating trying to start our bedroom fireplace, I resorted to a hair dryer. Luckily, the AC cord just reached. High was overkill and did blow some ashes around. Low was better and worked well. That's what made me make FiAir. But I wanted No Handle and it had to be battery powered, ergonomic, compact and lightweight. And just the right power for fires.
I don't know if you're joking, but one Fall my neighbor was having trouble starting his grill. I happened to be using my leaf blower and took it over to give it a try. Talk about overkill! You have to stand very far away and try to hit your target. We laughed a lot. I was just picturing trying it inside with a fireplace...
And both are less than ergonomic and certainly not portable.
To me, these alternative approaches come under Wrong Tool For The Job.
If you ever decide to try the right tool designed specifically for fires, give FiAir a try. I think you'll really like the speed and control you'll have.
But, hey, whatever floats your boat :-)XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo. -
I have been looking at this as well and you could use it to light cigars too.

An "inexpensive blower" sounds like something that is illegal in most states."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

RRP said:@FiAirChief - welcome aboard! Care to clear up the misconception about your unit being variable speed which it is not?
I must also correct an inaccurate description of FiAir that says you can press the button harder for more airflow.
This is completely wrong. I have managed to finally make the change on the Amazon America page, but not on the Canadian version.
Someone wrote that in error. And I can understand why.
For starters, FiAir contains a momentary switch that goes off when you let go of the button. We see this as an important Safety feature.
There is nothing in the Switch that makes the fan blade spin any faster, but someone who also wanted to sell FiAir on Amazon created the problem by copying and pasting that inaccuracy from a Review. The Reviewer was confused when he/she saw the fire grow faster and stronger NOT by pressing the button harder, but simply because the button was held longer and the fire got more air as a result. Pressing the button harder and hoping for more airflow is just wishful thinking.
Again, I can understand why someone would make such a mistake, but I would really like to correct it anywhere I find it.
So - you are absolutely right and the Reviewer was wrong. It even made me laugh when i first saw it, but it is Misinformation that I’d like to correct.

That is, indeed, a prototype rendering in chrome. I do have a chrome version of the Final FiAir. It is a thing of beauty and I keep it safe.RRP said:Found it on Google - though it looks like it was made with a chrome plated prototype.

We would likely have used a process called Vacuum Metallizing which bonds the metallic finish to the plastic. We could also do surfaces in gold, bronze, etc. but it'll probably never happen because it could add about $10 to the final cost.
If we ever get enough volume, we DO have the option to change colors without having to up the cost and we have lots of beautiful possibilities I may post one day.
The chrome version got some attention, but the video was made using our black prototype which worked like a champ. I used that early FiAir for all kinds of fires. The Final FiAir is sleeker with no bump on the top. It's just a little bigger, but 50% more powerful. So, if you think this looks good, know the one we've been shipping for over 2 years works even better.
We have lots of videos on youtube and many of those on our website at www.FiAir.net. You'll find plenty on charcoal fires, but FiAir also works even better with wood fires. If it gets too cold to use your BGE, use FiAir in your fireplace or wood stove and get warm fast. -
How "Kentucky" is this? I have only needed a fast heat start up once thus far. It was on one of those Kentucky summer days of 100F and high humidity. I had a fan running on the patio, and just directed it towards the bottom vent on the XL. Boom! 400F in less than 10 mins after lighting.
Have not used it since. Start up time is holy. That time is my 2-3 glasses of Burgundy time. That time is precious."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
