The wood guy, who is crazy, yet smart. Idiot savant, or something. I haven't me him. Either way, he was insulted Larry didn't eat his food. Didn't cash the check. ( didn't need the money ). Was angry.

On a serious note, interesting story.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Larry's representative called and asked if they could buy some of the wood. The wood guy said, with anger, he needs to write a $500,000 check for the wood he wants because I'm insulted about not eating any of my food.

The guy said, I'll get back with you. Later, the wood guy got a check for $2,000,000 and a few trucks came to pick up the wood. End of story. This was told to me by my neighbor who was there yesterday. He said I would love the wood guy and we need to go visit him. I told him I would love to, as a lover of fine local woods and eccentric people, that's in my playbook of things to do.
Needless to say, we have that trip planned, and I will emphatically invite the wood guy to brisket camp.
End of story. For now.

Why do they always think THEY are so dang awesome?
...Because the guy at the mall told them they are. Their kiosk sits right between the Sunglasses Hut and the Orange Julius, so you know they're the best.
You know everybody says the same about BGE owners right?? LOL
-
These posts tickle me, but yet also gets under my skin a little. No disrespect to the OP, but @stlcharcoal really has a point.
They paid good money for their device and they like it. It likely makes very good meal I am sure. I have never cooked on one, but I bet they're nice.
I've said this numerous times, but the Egg is just a tool, it's not always the best tool for cooking, there are other methods/devices that make great food too.
Maybe have a conversation about cooking instead of trying to bust a mans pride next time. Who knows, you may learn something.
Jonathan is probably right though that every likely says the same about BGE owners.------------------------------

Cool story Nola, he sounds like a real character. Of course, this just reinforces my perception of Ellison too.
As for BGE vs Traeger or whatever, I do think it's pretty silly to evangelize about one vs another being the best. Best is relative. It's said that it's the Indian, not the arrow, well, I'm a pretty crappy Indian but the BGE makes me better. I'm sure a Traeger would as well, it just didn't appeal to me since I like playing with fire. I would never tell someone it's the best.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
@Legume , maybe he'll feel the same when they're talking about BGE and runs into a KomodoKamado owner....------------------------------

You got it......If you have [whatever] and you like [whatever], and you've never tried [whatever 1, 2, 3, or 4] then of course it's the "best" to you. It just ticks me off when those people try to tell you what a POS you have because theirs is "obviously better" (yet they have no experience, knowledge, etc with the exception of their pride and the whatever's marketing.
I have a 30hp Mahindra tractor....."it freakin rocks" for me, but I don't know if it's any better than New Holland, Kubota, etc. It works for everything I need it to, so I'm happy. After a few more years of depreciation, it will be time for a new one so I'll be taking educated suggestions for a 40-50hp one. All I know is that it's much better than @SGH John Deere. LOL
-
I thought my BGE was the best smoker in the world until I got something that runs on wood. Now I only use my egg as a grill or If don't have time to feed the fire I use it to smoke. It all comes down to what you are looking for and what fits your needs.

Ford made a very solid tractor. Just meat and potatoes. We had a old 8N. Wish we would have kept it.Durangler said:Funny stuff... @stlcharcoal jousting the big green tractor.

@SGH Your probably already aware, the old '50's Fords have become collector items. My brother & I have one. It's a little rough, but still runs & plows snow, corrugates & cleans ditches on our SW Colorado property when needed.
Parts are still available!

@nolaegghead,
I see that BGE isn't the only green kool aid you've drank. SWMBO would kill me if she knew what I spent on Festool. Talk about an expensive hobby.
Those we are some gorgeous slabs you're working with there.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.
