...to buy a plate setter for my LBGE that I had ordered. While they were getting it from the back, I was looking around the store and they had a demo XL (with nest, mates, & plate setter) that had been used a few times during store cookouts. They had it all marked for sale at $999, as is.
What I originally thought was a salesman approached me and we started chatting about it. He told me he'd sell it to me for $799 and include a warranty. He turned out to be the owner of the store.
I bought my plate setter, came home and told my wife she needed to do a good job of convincing me to not go back and buy it. Her first response was, "how many more ribs can you fit on it." Not quite helpful.
The dilemma is that I just bought my LBGE two weeks ago. It seems like a great deal, but do I really need an XL too?

Life is not based on need alone-you do not need it but you have a chance to basically steal a XL. Even if you don't keep it you can flip for more than you have invested. Go buy-now.

Yes, yes you do. I bought a LBGE and knew I needed more grid space within a few days. I planned to buy the XL and sell the LBGE, I have had both for years. I also sort of inherited a MBGE. They all have their virtues, but most of all being able to execute separate cooks simultaneously is very nice. I am about to give the original LBGE to my daughter who just bought a house. I will be replacing it with another XL. I kind of like the MBGE for simple steaks or chops but I would really advocate the largest grids you can afford and at least two, if not three.

You might consider buying the XL, then selling the Large for enough to cover the cost of the XL purchase.

For those of you that have both a Large and XL, how often to you actually need both?

I have a medium and an XL. I've never NEEDED both. Heck, I've never needed an egg.
However, I use both at the same time probably 30% of the time.A bison’s level of aggressiveness, both physical and passive, is legendary. - NPS -

The large is all you need. Someone said you could flip it? Ain't no way your gonna flip it without a warranty. I'd only buy it if you regret buying the large, but you're still going to take a hickey on that when you sell it. Most normal people don't need a large and an XL.Dave - Austin, TX

I would think its not about price. Its about the size. Is the LBGE too small? If so than upgrade. If no,t then stick to the large.

Thanks for all the feedback. After a lot of thinking, I decided to pass. I'm just going to spend the money on one of the other toys (my Jeep) instead.
If I hadn't just bought one a few weeks ago, I definitely would be buying it.
