    Hauled in a few trout the other day

    My son had been hammering on me for several weeks to try a charter service on the lake we fish quite a bit. I was not too keen on "paying" someone to show me how to catch fish.....Well I have to say, I was eating crow after our guide put us on these nice fish. We found one spot where we caught one after another. Our first pass on this spot was a triple. Each successive pass caught at least one hog.  We only failed to land two and had limited out in about an hour. The fish ranged from 20-24" and a few came close to 4 lbs. I tried to explain to my son how epic a day this was. Believe me, we've been skunked more times than I would like to admit. We grilled one of the "smaller" rainbows and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, we don't have an egg where we were staying so we had the cook on a gasser. Next go round will be on the egg.

      Where do you fish that has a daily limit so high?  I catch and release but if I wanted to keep some the limit is 2.

      Awesome job on the fish, I bet you remember where that sweet spot is next time your out.   Looks like a beautiful place to unwind.

      Yes on both! The funny thing is, they were in a spot I never would have imagined.

      I agree! I have been trout fishing for 43 years and have never come close to this. I've fished this lake on and off for the last 20 years and have caught a few decent fish but none like this group. My expectations were low as the guide mentioned how slow it had been recently. (My son and I were skunked on this same lake 3 weeks ago)

      Nice!  What bait did you use?  We always use powerbait for trout and that stuff works!

      Trolling with the guides own flashers, tipped with a "hard corn" and 2 rods on downriggers and 2 without. He sells his flasher systems as well. Shaver is about an hr north east of Fresno.

      Did you have a "told ya dad" moment? Fishing with kids is great, but when you have a day like that, Wow!  Thanks for posting.

      I fished with corn as a kid until someone told me it was illegal. As soon as I read your post, I immediately went to the Wyoming Fish & Game site. I couldn't believe it. In blue ink(new changes), I read corn can be used anywhere bait is allowed. Whoowoo. Corn was my favorite bait.

      Nice catch for sure. That's when it's really enjoyable, cast and catch. I understand your reluctance to using a charter. But sometimes they are worth their weight in gold. It's hard to compete with folks who do it all day everyday. They know all the ins and outs and hidden hot spots. Glad you had a great time.

      I should have remembered a guided fly fishing trip I went on about 25 years ago and how invaluable that was. I learned more in that one day with a guide than I would have on my own for many years.
