Ok....first attempt at a post (I've been lurking for a month or so). Lots of great info here!

pulling the trigger on an LBGE next week and just want to run my list by all the experience here. The regrettable purchase thread is awesome

here's my list

LBGE
table nest...I will be building a table
ar setup with oval stone and grate (not planning on bge plate setter thanks to the thread mentioned above)
thermopen
Kick ash basket
welding gloves
small shop vac

i would also like a good remote thermometer...seen good and bad on the maverick so still not sure.....I'm thinking the I grill 2 looks good....any preferences?

You've got a great starting list. I can't recommend anything Apple related as I don't participate with their products but it sounds like it gets good reviews from those that do.

Your on target and welcome. Shop vac is useful but optional.  Most important is is quality of meat you put on the egg.

Sounds good.  I can't comment on the kickash bucket and iGrill since I don't have them.  I do have a Maverick, but I rarely use it.  It is good for learning but ultimately, you'll learn just to use the dome thermo - those probes are a pain to deal with.

For the temp.....I'm thinking because I am new to this....I'd like to have one at least until I figure out the timing......I've been using a COS for a couple years.....looking forward to the egg!!

I'm sort of new too, and don't comment much, but I read almost everything.  It sounds like you've made your decision, but I humbly suggest that you consider an XL.  A couple less accessories, and you've covered the price difference.  I don't want to start an XL v. Large battle, because there have been a lot of those, but I just think you'd really like the extra space. Others with much more experience than I may disagree.

I've tossed it back and forth......just my wife and I for the most part.....when we do have family over.....I'm thinking that the AR will give me the extra space I need. Then it's mostly brisket or pulled pork for 10 people max....thanks for the input though!

There is no battle between eggs each one serves its owner well

I've tried both, and much prefer the iGrill2.

I learned the hard way that Maverick probes are not compatible between different Maverick base unit models. I've used electrical tape in different colors to label which probes are compatible with which base units.

Even if that weren't a problem, the usage experience with iGrill2 is so much nicer. Great visuals on your iOS device, and you can project "done" time easily because of the graph.    Hopefully iGrill will keep their probes compatible...   But if not, you'll have a better experience in the meantime.

Welcome to the machine. A couple of very wise folks made brilliant comments on advise. Buy the highest quality of meat, and learn to trust the dome. If you have the therma pen, temp control becomes almost redundant. I will say it is a good learning tool / confidence builder, but ultimately, the dome will be your guide.
As far as size selection, pick whatever you want. You will buy a second, a third, and like most of the BGE OCDs on this forum, a forth and on, and on ......... The initial cost is nothing to join, it is the cost to stay that kills your bank account.

First welcome !!! Great to have new folks coming in.

I use a Maverick remote (732).  Are you wanting wifi or what type of remote interface?   Are you wanting cell phone integration, or just to use while at home? Mine is for "at home " use....sit in side or go to bed and feel safe about temps. Mine works eggcellent and have never had a problem in 1.5 years of pretty heavy use.

Different folks have different opinions...I respect that.

Totally this.  I might use one for a long low and slow, but it's really not necessary.

Looks like a great list.  I can't comment on the kick ash basket because I don't own one.  It doesn't really solve a problem that I have but most people see to love them.  I have the iGrill and I love it.  I don't really know the differences between my model and the new one. Have fun man.  You only light your first egg one time. It's a magical experience.

Thermoworks is also having an open box sale currently. Thermopops for $19 and other remote types -  I picked up a pair of pops- they work great and look flawless.
